I am the Co-Founder, President and Chairman of Elevate Addiction Services, based in the San Francisco Bay area and Lake Tahoe.We believe that addiction treatment needs to do more than just help someone get sober – it needs to transform the life of the addict and empower him or her to create a more meaningful and positive life.It is controversial to say, but I don't believe labeling addiction as a disease is always a positive experience. While it can be helpful for some, it does not often resonate well with the younger demographic. An older person may say the youngster "just doesn't get it". It could also be that the language is not one that helps them. I prefer to call addiction a manifestation of a deeper physical, emotional and spiritual dilemma that can only be resolved by directly addressing those underlying issues. When rehab is done right, clients shouldn't need to keep coming back to rehab endlessly. They can if they need to but usually don’t, or only once if they missed something and relapsed. To accomplish this, we don’t simply treat the symptoms of addiction by masking it with medication and call it good. At Elevate, we treat the whole person and teach them how to create a meaningful life without substances. When they are happier without alcohol or drugs and living a fulfilling life, they are much more likely to succeed in their lives. We believe that addicts deserve second chances, and that’s what we provide at Elevate.
