I've never considered myself a tech guy.Sure, throughout my whole life I've been, and continue to be actually, the family IT person. TV installation? "Call Danny." How do I transfer these pictures to the computer? "Call Danny." Though looking back I see that I was always immersed and thrust into technology, I never pictured that I would be pursuing a career in this field. As the oldest son of two Colombian immigrants, I'd say that my upbringing was rather different than that of my classmates. I can start with the fact that I entered the school system not speaking a word of English, but that's not what I choose to remember. I was raised in such a way that family played a major role in my life; I grew up surrounded by people who loved me and always offered me their shoulder. I grew up in an environment where dependability was the norm.As I've started to mature and enter the "real world", I've come to realize the scarcity of dependability. The trust, the security, and the honesty of people isn't a given anymore, it's earned. I have come to understand that, and it's helped shape who I want to develop myself into as a professional by filtering the people I meet, the friendships I make, and the opportunities I seek. I grew up in an environment where I could depend on those around me for any and everything; as I enter the professional world as a first-generation American and college student, I hope to evoke that same feeling in those I chose to put around me.
