How does a native Texan with only two bags in his hands find his way to NYC and begin to build a career in growing some of the world’s top brands and advertising agencies?Having one of the bags filled with delicious Texas BBQ brisket...that’s how!BBQing is a birthright in Texas and I’d like to think that I brought the BBQ craze to NYC after I moved up here over 15 years ago.Smoking a brisket is extremely deceiving. You might watch a couple of cooking shows, buy an expensive smoker, fire it up and expect to smoke a brisket that is tender, juicy and flavorful. But you will quickly realize that it takes time, experimentation, dedication and most importantly, passion.All of these things, I have learned and brought not only into my BBQ skills but also into my work.With over 20 years of advertising experience, I have worked on iconic brands like Mastercard, Hershey’s and Bud Light, and have learned from some of the most skilled marketers at world-class agencies like JWT, mcgarrybowen and McCann. Having worked for both small and large agencies, I thrive in an entrepreneurial environment where I am continually inspired to bring ideas to life in new and innovative ways. I have overseen the launch of award-winning product ideas, transformed agency models for the digital age, grown my clients and my agency’s business, all while continuing to learn from my mistakes and loving every minute of what I do.I love the art, the challenge, the learning, the relationship building, the failures, the successes, the restarts…everything.Which leads me to my final point. You can watch a couple of cooking shows, buy an expensive smoker, fire it up and smoke a brisket….but without passion, it will be tasteless.
