Over the past three decades, I have worked in community development and human rights, for five of those years living in El Salvador and Mexico. I knocked on doors in Boston public housing to form tenant organizations where I the learned the nuts and bolts of community organizing - listening to residents' visions of their communities and helping craft action plans to get there. Since then, my interest in training local leaders and supporting grassroots advocacy strategies for improved public services has continued to grow. Through managing programs as varied as micro-credit in Lowell, MA to cooperative cattle ranching in Usulutan, El Salvador, I have seen both trainwrecks and successful initiatives. I have taken a keen interest in organizational strengthening, leadership coaching, functional coalitions (including support to social movements) and strategies to strengthen public sector capacity and accountability. Working with numerous philanthropic organizations in program development, communications, fundraising and evaluation roles, I have grappled with how best to offer strategic support to change processes. In recent years, I have developed a speciality in resource rights - community access and stewardship of land and water resources and local food systems. I currently work with public water utilities across Latin America to protect upstream water sources in collaboration with rural communities. Specialties: Program Development, Strategic Planning, Communications, Fundraising, Monitoring and Evaluation, Latin America Rural Development, Water, Advocacy Campaigns, Community Organizing, Grants Management. Writing - proposals, reports, articles, blogs.
