While working nights full-time for The Post in 1989-93, I went to school during the day to get a degree in mechanical engineering. This resulted in the job with Pratt, in which I worked with engineers to create maintenance manuals for fighter-jet engines manufactured by Pratt and traveled to Air Force bases and manufacturing plants to field test those manuals. I continued to work part-time at night for the paper while I held this job and eventually returned to the paper full time when offered a promotion.
