Daniel Nugent is a Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of the University Foundation at Stockton University. He possess expertise in volunteer management, social media, public speaking, public relations, fundraising and 25 more skills. It is impossible to explain Dan’s role in any capacity without first describing his ability to always be a team player. For many, Dan is a link between not only Alumni Relations and other University Advancement departments such as Public Relations and Development, but also with partners in Student Affairs and Academics. In January of 2010, I was hired full-time to work as the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement, under Dan’s direct supervision. I accepted the position in part because I recognized the value of the opportunity to work under someone with a leadership style such as Dan’s. His strong work ethic and enthusiastic approach are an inspiration. Dan has taken the extra step in regards to his responsibility to manage and lead his staff. A student worker, 3 graduate assistants, and myself all reported to Dan. This is a testament to his ability to manage. I have been particularly impressed with his willingness to support me in my professional development. Dan has taken great pride in the fact he has become a well-rounded Alumni Relations professional. He has been given the roles of managing Seton Hall’s regional alumni chapter network, volunteer initiatives, alumni benefits and services, and all alumni print and on-line communications. Furthermore, Dan worked on a variety of large University wide events, created and advised the Student Alumni Association, and sits on multiple University committees. More recently, Dan has expanded his responsibilities to include senior class initiatives. In each role, Dan has found a way to strengthen and enhance these programs and initiatives to match the strategic goals of both the department and the University. Dan’s current responsibilities are mainly focused on alumni communications. In an age when people want information readily available at their fingertips at all times, Dan has kept Seton Hall on the cutting edge of communication. He works with the University’s Public Relations and Marketing team to put out a quarterly print magazine to tens of thousands of alumni. He created and manages a Facebook page that has over to 4,000 friends, a Twitter account with over 800 followers, and Linked In network of 3,500 for Seton Hall alumni. To put this into perspective, that is potentially over 8,000 alumni that would not be connected to the University if it wasn’t for Dan’s work. Dan is also responsible for the content on the Alumni website and in the monthly e-newsletter that is sent out to 28,000 alumni. His ability to be so successful at strategically branding and communicating the University to external constituents is because he himself so fully understands what it means to be a Seton Hall Pirate. Although a small Alumni Relations shop of 5 staff members, we are able to surpass our goals year in and year out largely in part to Dan’s dedication and experience." and "I have worked with Dan for about 7 years now and can truly attest to the type of employee and person he is. Dan never fails to develop a new idea or more importantly, a solution to any issue that comes his way. This means that he does his due diligence in evaluating the situation/issue, coming up with recommendations that have backing and presenting those recommendations with confidence. I have seen Dan develop much needed programs and see them through from start to finish. It's very apparent that he understands his work is not only a reflection on the department but on himself. Other employees look to Dan for guidance and I believe that is invaluable. What helps Dan achieve that sort of mentorship ability is because he doesn't work in a vacuum. He has educated himself about other areas so he can take the best approach to the task at hand. Dan is one of those few people that would fit in anywhere and any organization would be lucky to have him as part of their team."
