DREAMS seeks to reduce new HIV infections in adolescent girls and young women. Its sub-objective is to prevent unintended pregnancies. The ultimate goal of the partnership is to help girls develop into Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe (DREAMS) women.As a senior technical advisor I oversee the technical aspects of the implementation of DREAMS and coordinate technical engagements with partners, including DREAMS Innovation Challenge awardees, Implementing Science partner, national and county governments, civil society organizations, corporates, parents and guardians and AGYW. I have developed and manage sub-agreement scopes of work/contracts for six Implementing Partners who are engaged for efficient delivery of the stated objectives and targets.I am tasked with building and managing relationships with government agencies, PEPFAR, USAID, DREAMS stakeholders and recipients, and ensuring compliance with PEPFAR strategic direction on the implementation of DREAMS.In the last year and a half of DREAMS implementation, I have managed to integrate 6 implementing partners as PATH sub-contractors, developed scopes of works, adopted the Safe Space concept to suit AGYW access to biomedical services, and designed interventions to improve girls and young women's health, economic, literacy and social assets. In that duration, my key achievements have been the application of the safe space concept to increase number of newly tested AGYW, improved access by AGYW to contraceptive methods mix education and commodities, ensuring typical male sex partners of the AGYW are identified and afforded access to highly effective HIV prevention services and the development of the DREAMS Child Protection Code of Conduct and the Safe Space Code of Conduct for Adults. My key responsibilities include providing strategic direction on the design and implementation of the Youth Focus component of APHIAPLUS Western Kenya, ensuring compliance with USAID strategic direction and implementation of the APHIAPLUS Project, managing relationships with Government agencies, USAID, local implementing partners and project recipients, and developing and managing sub-agreement contracts and budgets for Local Implementing Partners (LIPs) and providing quarterly project reports to the USAID.In the course of the project, I have been able to support the Government to roll out and implement the Life Skills Intervention in Schools, build the capacity of 5 local NGOs to implement youth-focused interventions, improve youth-friendliness in health institutions and improve young people’s uptake of services in Government health facilities. I have built the capacities of over 150 youth organizations in Western and Nyanza regions of Kenya to mobilize communities for health besides improving their access to economic empowerment by initiating income-generation activities for all of them. I continue to manage an average budget of $500,000, and for which I have ensured the achievement of the ‘reach-more-with-less’ by implementing such initiatives as the Maswala Krucial Comic Series that have saved the project approximately $100,000 had we gone for the classic book production. This project was aimed at providing technical assistance, financial support, and capacity building for HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment for members of the Non-Military uniformed services of the Republic of Kenya under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, PEPFAR.My key responsibilities included providing project leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of Op-ARIFU communication strategy and in the development of training curricula and materials;… Show more This project was aimed at providing technical assistance, financial support, and capacity building for HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment for members of the Non-Military uniformed services of the Republic of Kenya under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, PEPFAR.My key responsibilities included providing project leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of Op-ARIFU communication strategy and in the development of training curricula and materials; developing innovative and effective prevention interventions and tools targeting uniformed officers, their families and neighboring communities; supporting and supervising the Operation ARIFU Behavior Change interventions to ensure quality and timely intervention within established budgets; interpreting donor needs and providing leadership in the implementation of Evidence-informed Behavioral Interventions within Op-ARIFU as required by our donor, the CDC; developing the prevention work-plan and budget as required by the project’s design; and effectively participating in the EBIs TWG headed by NASCOP.For the period I led the prevention initiative in the project, I was able to build the capacities of the AIDS Control Units of the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, Kenya Wildlife Services and National Youth Service to implement prevention programs within their organizations and also mainstreamed the implementation of the Families Matter Program and Healthy Choices for a Better Future EBIs in all the Services. I was able to develop and updated and more responsive Kenya Police Service Workstation Policy on HIV and AIDS and to initiate the process for all the other Services. I developed the Condolympics, Sexauction and Maswala Nyeti Comic Series interventions which reached a total of over 120,000 uniformed officers. I developed the ARIFU CHONJO Knowledge Reference Pack and the ARIFU CHONJO Peer Educators Guide during this period. Show less
