I have gained most of my over 16 years’ experience in Health, Social and Behavior Change Communication within the Non-Governmental Sector, with responsibilities in leading prevention and communication programs targeting diverse cadres of audiences in various countries in Africa and Asia. I have applied my multiple talents, knowledge and skills in response to various developmental issues.I have been engaged as a health communication, community theatre and drama consultant and as a Prevention Advisor and Senior Technical Advisor on Youth by both international development organizations, universities and the Ministries of Education and Health in Kenya. I have been a member of NASCOP’s TWG on Evidence-informed Behavioral Interventions and Ministry of Education’s committee on the revision of the Drama Festivals Guide.I have experience in designing programs, innovating interventions, designing communication strategies, carrying out baseline surveys, developing curricula, training and building capacities of individuals and organizations, reviewing and evaluating behavior change communications interventions and leading teams of local implementing organizations in project actualization.I developed the ‘Condolympics’, ‘Sexauction’ and ‘Maswala Nyeti Comic Series’ interventions, besides being an award-winning developer of the Magnet Theatre intervention. I have worked in Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, India, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa and South Sudan.I am a published creative writer and hobbyist farmer.I am passionate about ensuring that useful innovations that promote health and quality of life are taken up and utilized by those most in need of them. I have developed and manage sub-agreement scopes of work/contracts for six Implementing Partners who are engaged for efficient delivery of the stated objectives and targets.I am tasked with building and managing relationships with government agencies, PEPFAR, USAID, DREAMS stakeholders and recipients, and ensuring compliance with PEPFAR strategic direction on the implementation of DREAMS.In the last year and a half of DREAMS implementation, I have managed to integrate 6 implementing partners as PATH sub-contractors, developed scopes of works, adopted the Safe Space concept to suit AGYW access to biomedical services, and designed interventions to improve girls and young women's health, economic, literacy and social assets. In that duration, my key achievements have been the application of the safe space concept to increase number of newly tested AGYW, improved access by AGYW to contraceptive methods mix education and commodities, ensuring typical male sex partners of the AGYW are identified and afforded access to highly effective HIV prevention services and the development of the DREAMS Child Protection Code of Conduct and the Safe Space Code of Conduct for Adults. I have built the capacities of over 150 youth organizations in Western and Nyanza regions of Kenya to mobilize communities for health besides improving their access to economic empowerment by initiating income-generation activities for all of them. I continue to manage an average budget of $500,000, and for which I have ensured the achievement of the ‘reach-more-with-less’ by implementing such initiatives as the Maswala Krucial Comic Series that have saved the project approximately $100,000 had we gone for the classic book production. I was able to develop and updated and more responsive Kenya Police Service Workstation Policy on HIV and AIDS and to initiate the process for all the other Services. I developed the Condolympics, Sexauction and Maswala Nyeti Comic Series interventions which reached a total of over 120,000 uniformed officers.
