Director Of Technology - Project Manager
This position came out of my background in computers and networking, learned on the job as well as in free time. Responsibilities included designing, programing, and troubleshooting security(CCTV, Access Control) networks all ranging in size from a few dozen nodes to several thousand. As the DoT, I was the top tier technician to resolve all level 3 and 4 support issues. I worked closely with technology partners to evaluate network performance, identify short falls, correct deficiencies and set market policies and help the end user maintain a healthy, robust, and efficient system. The DoT position dealt with all aspect of the customers system, not just the network. I was responsible to provide an enterprise class security systems including CCTV, IDS, Access Control, and Panic alarms. These systems incorperated Windows Domain services, File servers, fault monitoring, email services and end user workstations. I was tasked with designing network, servers, workstations and storage to meet each customers unique needs. Some of my customers include, Resorts World New York Casino (Queens), North Start Mohican Casino (Bowler, WI - nominated for integration of the year), Tulalip Casino and Resort (Tulalip WA), Commerce Casino (Commerce, CA), Morongo Casino Resort and Spa (Cabazon, CA). Each of these customers have unique needs for their networks, storage and viewing capabilities. As DoT I established company base lines for system design and programing. Through these baseline system designs several different teams of technicians would be deployed throughout the country doing installations all the while being supported by a single entity. This proved to be quite advantageous as the need to be onsite in NY one day and Los Angeles the next was not uncommon, not due necessary to technical issues but system turn on schedules. As this process became successful, I created a specialized technical position, which solely dedicated their time to system programing and support.
Foreman
ForemanIncluding all of the work done as a technician this position required the use of a PC and standard software’s including: Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Web Browsers, PDF viewers/editors, terminal clients (hyperterm, Putty, wire shark), as well as vendor specific programing software; Bosch/Radionics, Ultrak/VideoBlox, Dallmeier, Silent Knight, Indigo Vision (ip cctv), Maxxess (access control). During this time the industry turned to an IP based infrastructure. The resulting change led me to further develop my IT skills. Through both classroom and hands on experience I obtained my Cisco CCENT (since expired) as well as practical experience with several switch manufacturers CLI’s to include HP, Dell, Forece-10, Juniper, Cisco, and D-Link. I also learned to work with various styles of large format storage systems. These technologies include SAN, DAS, Pool storage, iSCSI. Utilizing various RAID configurations (0,1,5,6 etc) created storage LUNS to provide the customer the most resilient, and robust storage system for their needs. This position brought with it subordinates to lead, train and guide in their development. As a foreman I was responsible to plan and report my teams’ efforts to the office as well as the GC and owner. This was done through daily reports, weekly look ahead reports/meetings. As a foreman I was responsible to make sure all work was done in accordance with industry standards as well as standards set out by the company. Training apprentices and developing standards for the other foreman to follow became one of my responsibility.
Installer
Technician As an installation technician I learned how to Install, maintain, troubleshoot, electronics security systems to include CCTV, Access control, Fire Alarm, and Burglar alarms and related equipment. Read prints and schematics. Mount, fasten, wire up simple and complex components via, written documentation and diagrams. I was responsible to document my work, as well as train the end user on the usage and basic troubleshooting of their systems. I used testing tools including, volt-ohm meter, oscilloscope, OTDR’s, DTX/DSX cable certifiers, fault locators. Wired various styles of buildings, metals stud, wood stud, residential, commercial, through ceilings, walls, and crawl spaces. All wiring was put in to local and national code standards. I used my knowledge of these systems to troubleshoot a myriad of issues from the common user error to rodent, water, and intentional damage. The job required use of basic hand tools, basic power and specialty tools, ie RG (coax)/RJ(telco) crimpers, punch down (110, 66), fiber optic connectors (epoxy, mechanical crimp, fusion). Maintenance of system included testing all devices, batteries, keypads for preventive care and malfunction repair.
