Biologist | Bioinformatician undergoing training | MusicianInterested in complex problems, processes improvement, collaborative work and bio-art.I am fascinated by serendipity and experienced it as a PhD student while studying a gene called Usp2. That took me from the topics of renal salt handling by aldosterone to dietary calcium uptake in the intestine and to closely look at hundreds of Drosophila hairs to find a nice conserved relationship between the gene and the ion.On the lysosomal cystine storage disease cystinosis, I try to find out whether, in addition to mTOR signaling, mRNA translation is disturbed in the renal proximal tubule and how that could participate in disease progression. To generate genetic disease models, I established a routine CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing pipeline from sgRNA design to clone screening and could obtain homozygous knock-in of point mutations. I became a reference person on this topic and provided assistance to >10 researchers to choose their strategy along with animating a club on the technique. I greatly enjoy putting ideas together in projects outlines and I co-wrote scientific material for 3 successful grant applications.I loved transmitting knowledge and know-how to the 8 undergrad and technician students I have trained over the years; get through a well-conducted experiment and enjoy it just like recording a flawless guitar track in one take, bring imagination and creativity together with rigor and accuracy. When I'm not in a lab transferring incredibly small volumes from a tube to another, I write and play music (guitar, bass, piano and harmonica on 4 LP, 9 EP and 250 gigs with 6 bands since 2001), I cook from scratch with what's there or with an established edible biochemistry protocol and learn more on my current goals (now: R, Python and bash scripting, practicing RNA-seq analysis).
