As an Investment Management Trainee, we were required to rotate between two departments which are the Investment Operations and Investment Accounting departments.Investment Operations- The Investment Operations department or the back office often complements the work that are done by the Middle Office and Front Office teams which are more client oriented. The back office team are often tasked with ensuring that the tasks done by the other two offices are successfully inputted into the system. Some of my main duties here were to: Prepare the daily reports in separate times in a day which are used in computing the pricing for unit linked funds.Ensure that the daily processing trades were cleared and if needed corrected, and also to post and clear security transactions.Reconcile security and cash holdings between our system and our custodian account and investment banks.Investment Accounting:-The investment accounting department often are tasked with ensuring that throughout the month, no trades outliers are missed so as to ensure that the monthly closings are completed without a hitch.Some of my tasks are:To monitor and record the daily exchange rates for both Indonesia and China and to reconcile any differences between our system and the rates posted online.Monitor and check weekly the reconcilations reports between our system (FSCM) and the finance system (FICO).Aid in the prepartion of the monthly, quarterly and yearly closings.
