    We did the LA adverting thing. The weather was great, but the economy wasn't. This was a short lived experience due to the recession during that time. Some highlights: I worked on ESPN and did a lot of great work, my boss was the guy who wrote the movie Old School, I ate some really great pizza, I got to skateboard and surf on my lunch breaks.

    My first real job out of ad school.It was harder than I expected. The nights went late. The days went long. But I learned how to be a real art director and worked on giant companies like Hilton and Miller. I even did one of those "Doorbuster" ads for Sears. I remember sitting in the editing room thinking "The people are going to love this sale when they hear about it. This is so fun." I have no idea if the sale turned out to be a good one. My guess is that it did because Sears kept running sales every other weekend.

    We've all been an intern somewhere. Mine was memorable. On my first day we went to a big advertising conference in downtown Chicago. I wore my favorite shirt (of the 3 shirts I owned) and wanted to impress my co-workers. But when I signed in to the conference I was so nervous that I typed my name wrong at the kiosk. As my name tag printed out I realized that I had typed "Dab" and not "Dan." Long story short, the entire year everyone called me Dab.
