As an International Student Welcome Leader, I played an integral role in helping new international students adjust to life at Penn State University during the university’s orientation program. My responsibilities included leading campus tours, providing essential information about academic resources and student life, and introducing students to various support services available on campus. I ensured that students were informed about key aspects of university life, including how to navigate the campus, use the bus system, and locate important offices like student services and academic advising.In addition to logistical support, I facilitated group sessions on academic success, sharing valuable tips on study strategies, time management, and how to utilize campus resources like libraries, tutoring centers, and online academic platforms. I also participated in panel discussions, sharing my own experiences as an international student to help new arrivals understand and adapt to the challenges they might face, such as cultural differences, homesickness, and balancing academics with social life. This position allowed me to develop my communication, leadership, and organizational skills, while contributing to the smooth transition and overall success of international students.

As an MCREU (Multi Campus Research Experience for Undergraduates) Research Assistant, I played an active role in advancing cutting-edge research initiatives, working collaboratively with faculty and peers across multiple campuses. My responsibilities included collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large, complex datasets, applying a range of advanced data science techniques. Leveraging tools such as Python, R, and machine learning algorithms, I developed solutions aimed at extracting actionable insights from data to solve pressing research problems.One of my primary tasks involved the design and execution of experiments in a hybrid work environment. I meticulously ensured data quality through rigorous preprocessing steps, including data cleaning, normalization, and feature engineering. This allowed me to maximize the accuracy and predictive power of machine learning models, tailoring algorithms to meet the specific demands of the research. My role also extended to selecting appropriate evaluation metrics, such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score, to assess the performance of the models and fine-tune them for optimal results.In addition to technical responsibilities, I contributed significantly to the dissemination of research findings. I prepared detailed research reports, visually presenting data through graphs, charts, and data visualizations to communicate key findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. I presented these findings in academic settings, honing my communication skills by delivering research updates to faculty, peers, and industry professionals. As a Global Lion Mentor, I played a crucial role in facilitating the successful transition of international students into the university community, providing personalized support to ensure they felt welcomed and equipped to thrive both academically and socially. My primary responsibilities involved conducting one-on-one and group mentoring sessions, where I addressed a wide range of challenges faced by international students, including cultural adjustment, language barriers, academic expectations, and campus navigation. I actively supported students in understanding the nuances of life in the U.S. and how to succeed in a new academic environment.Beyond individual mentorship, I collaborated with university staff and departments to ensure international students had comprehensive access to university resources, such as tutoring programs, mental health services, and career counseling. I coordinated closely with these services to streamline support, making sure that students could access the help they needed for both academic and personal development.This experience not only allowed me to strengthen my communication, leadership, and cross-cultural competency skills but also gave me the opportunity to positively impact students’ lives, helping them integrate into a new country and culture while maximizing their potential for academic success and personal growth.
