I manage the RTPI's Policy Team and am responsible for the Institute's networks and practice offer across the UK, as well as policy for England. This involved leading the Institute's response to government consultations, and developing new policy positions with the RTPI's England Policy Committee.

Main areas of work included project managing and contributing to one of the TCPA’ flagship most complex and significant projects – the Healthy Homes Act campaign – and securing important impacts in an extremely challenging political and social context, including:- Significant changes to government policy on housing quality related to Permitted Development Rights;- Working with political contacts to influence the legislative process, and draft legislation, amendments, and briefings;- Building a wide coalition of formal support across NGOs, firms, parliamentarians, and local authorities; and- Leading successful funding bids for two project extensions, as well more than £400k to deliver a new phase of the campaign over three years.Other work has included:- Regularly writing articles, public speaking, and contributing to the organisation’s profile (see selected publication list);- Planning and delivering expert policy workshops with local authorities; - Contributing to organisational policy development and responses;- Planning high-profile events for a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, ministers and MPs and Peers; and- Project development.

I led the Institute's work on climate change, resilience, and climate justice, and had responsibilities for:- Managing the RTPI Research Awards;- Managing, commissioning, budgeting for, and conducting robust and impactful research, often in partnership with commercial, organisational and academic partners;- Representing the RTPI at Editorial Board meetings of the Institute's academic journal; and- Leasing with planning schools and other academic partnersI also advised and supported partner organisations working on a number of project which align with the RTPI's objectives.

I worked on the politics and institutions of infrastructure provision, and was lead author on a report 'How to Design an Infrastructure Strategy for the UK'.The project's summary report, How to Transform Transform Infrastructure Decision Making, was runner up in Prospect Magazine's Think Tank of the Year Awards, Social Policy, category.Two of our key recommendations were that the Government respond to the National Infrastructure Commission's National Infrastructure Assessment with a National Infrastructure Strategy, and that it found an independent Commission for Public Engagement. These recommendations were implemented by HM Treasury, and endorsed by the independent Raynsford Review of Housing and Planning, respectively.

Authored a POST note on 'trends in political participation' over the next 5-15 years.

This was a path-breaking project which streamlined and modernised an extremely large volume of central-government produced planning guidance. The project was a ministerial priority that delivered against extremely tight deadlines, required close working with a range of stakeholders, and made novel use of web-based technologies. During my work in the project team I:- Led on the consultation analysis of the responses to the Taylor Review of Planning Practice Guidance.- Using my own initiative I built a new database and system for more efficiently processing consultation responses, which continued to be used after I left the department. - Authored the Government Response to the consultation on the Taylor Review and was a key contributor to the Response to the Select Committee and -Drafted and presented information to other government departments.- Project managed. This included: Managing the divisional plan, risk logging and mitigation for the Taylor Review, minute and agenda writing and chairing divisional meetings, and managing inter-team working.- Developed a deep understanding on the formation of policy, the legalities of planning, and the influence of politics in central government.- Drafted the new suite of planning guidance with policy leads, and have an intimate knowledge of the new suite.

I helped to deliver workshops in-school and to educate pupils about the importance of understanding the built environment and planning in the North West.

- I was selected for this role due to my ability to think critically, work efficiently and to understand the processes which underpin the development of the built environment.- The project explores the wider economic/cultural effects of European Capital of Culture events.- I will be carrying out qualitative background research and reviewing literature for publication.

- In this role I used experience I had previously gained working for Arc with methodological knowledge I picked up as part of my degree course. - I also recieved training as a focus group and interview facilitator.

- I was invovled with in-school teaching, publicity writing, exhibition guidance, helping to write Hull CC's pilot Local Development Framework and, primarily, programme research and development. - Within this I played an important part in developing the organisation's sustainability programme (which later became the organisation's primary function) and a key role in conceiving the successful 'SeeGreen' networking event.
