OneSteel (formerly BHP Steel) is the premier manufacturer and distributor of long steel products, in Australia with around 200 sites across the country. In total OneSteel services more than 30,000 customers, offers more than 40,000 products and employs over 7,500 people. OneSteel is also a significant supplier of scrap metal to foundries, smelters and Steel Mills in Australia and Internationally. Sydney Rolling Mill is 24/7 hot rolling mill which produces in-excess of 200 different sections ranging from angles, flats, Y-bar rounds, reinforcing bar and feed billets for wire rod. It is an extremely versatile and flexible operation that is unique in the world.Responsible and accountable for:Direct, Manage and Lead production activities in Safety, Quality, Operation Excellence and Supply Chain Management to ensure KPIs are met, downtime minimised, zero quality defects and 'goal zero' safety incidents. Performance Management systems and tools implemented and managed for this purpose including Lean Manufacturing.Provide Leadership, Coaching and Mentoring to 22 x operators, 1 x fitter and 1x electrician located between four distinct operational units that comprise the Sydney Rolling Mill. Social programming and emotional quotient skill sets required extensively for this role.Co-ordinate all plant activities with cross-functional departments to ensure all operational objectives are obtained in a timely and effective manner.Consult and provide input to cross-functional departments such as engineering, finance and procurement to work towards Continuous Improvement (Kaizen).
