Daniel Spitzer studied Engineering Physics at the Technical University of Eindhoven (the Netherlands). He received Ph.D. degree in Physics at the State University of Groningen (the Netherlands). He continued his work on environmental spectroscopy as chief scientist at the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, in charge of applications of optical Remote Sensing for coastal research. Later he became the head of the Remote Sensing Section at the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, representing the user community at diverse working groups of the European Space Agency, dealing with environmental applications of satellite earth observations. During his career, D. Spitzer fulfilled senior managerial positions at R&D departments of large international corporations in the Netherlands and in Canada. In 2006 he established A-MAPS Environmental Inc., a successful company focused on the development and implementation of modern environmental monitoring methods, such as satellite remote sensing, to map environmental processes on local and regional scales. He has provided presentations and speaking engagements at numerous conferences, has four filed patents and published more than sixty technical/scientific papers in leading international journals.
