Contributed to design and development of commercial and industrial products focused around proprietary, cutting-edge x-ray tube technology. Used Solidworks CAD software to construct detailed product models and produce engineering drawings. Identified and contracted vendors for additional design and manufacturing and cultivated relationships with major vendors. Conducted detailed engineering analysis based on results from bench testing and simulation software to identify and implement the best means for improving product performance according to customers' product requirements. Developed FDA-ready templates and file structure for CAD files and other design documentation. Recognized for attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve potential flaws or errors while under pressure to meet deadlines.

As the co-founder of a medical device start-up company located in the RTP area of North Carolina, I have worked to secure funding for product development and commercialization of an augmentative communication device (nurse call) for disabled hospital patients. Primary responsibilities for the company have included grant writing for federal and private funding, networking and building customer relationships, personnel management, business planning, and market research. A year-long exclusive business course called Launching the Venture at UNC aimed to provide practical experience and skilled advice growing a venture was completed from Fall 2011 to Spring 2012. The course provided experience similar to an MBA-level education.

The lead of a team of two full-time engineers and additional part-time consultants developing a fetal heart monitor for a RTP, NC based startup funded by an NSF Phase I research grant, I worked with a high degree of independence to establish a quality system and design and test a proof of concept prototype device. Writing and documentation was a large part of my responsibilities. I wrote a test protocol, developed and constructed a testbed, and successfully tested the prototype and reported on my findings. In addition to demonstrating good project management practices, I worked in an environment with firm deadlines and time constraints that were critical to the success of the project. This project was placed on hold after the Phase I grant period (6 months) ended.
