CurrentDesign and implementation in AWS of a service-oriented platform to improve upon and replace the legacy product serving customer business objects (sheets) in the Smartsheet application. My focus was providing for resiliency and tracability of changes to customer data initiated from the new API. This platform now handles most sheet traffic.Design and implementation in AWS of a serverless application to improve upon and replace the legacy platform linking data between business objects (sheet links). I led the initial design of this new service getting buy-in from stakeholders within the company. Once the project started I led the implementation work as well. The rollout of this service helped us bring sheet link-related service-impacting events down from sometimes dozens in a day (easily the biggest pain point in engineering at the time), to one or two a month if any.Improved operation of the core Smartsheet application by expanding our runbook for various classes of production issue, and continuously adding to our production telemetry, allowing for better insight into and faster resolution of issues when they do occur.Multiple projects on the core legacy application to improve performance and capability, and protect against data loss. We increased various limits on business objects which had been imposed by shortcomings of the legacy system when I joined: for example we improved scalability enough to allow for up to 20,000 rows on a customer sheet, from the previous 5000.Led an effort to migrate some of the highest-traffic tables out of our core database. I identified the steps to take in production to complete this work successfully and without downtime, and implemented the changes to the product needed to facilitate the move. This effort was very successful (we migrated with no production incident or downtime) and as such, has subsequently served as a template for several similar efforts against other high-traffic tables on that database, in the years since.
