I worked in quality control and as the Quality Control Manager and Lab Technician for five years at Erickson Metals. During this time, I was in charge of all elements regarding quality assurance, which required constant, scrupulous attention to detail—in addition to performing numerous physical tests on samples of each alloy and associated temper—to guarantee absolute satisfaction from our many customers, and to ensure compliance with both ISO and Aluminum Association standards as a certified supplier. In the world of aluminum, there are many categories of quality that must be strictly followed; this involves everything from ensuring particular strength and elasticity requirements to finding chemical impurities and identifying visible surface imperfections that do not conform with standard expectations. At Erickson, anything short of perfection would be deemed unusable before it ever left our facility. There were numerous approaches that could be taken in these instances, all of which were dependent upon the origin of the observed defect. If it was determined that the imperfection existed upon arrival at our location (thus having originated at one of our distributors’ plants), I would present these findings in the form of official rejection claims, a task which necessitated substantial research, provided evidence, written reports, and subsequent correspondence with the distributor to make certain this would not happen again. If, however, the imperfection was the result of our own processing within our Connecticut location, we would make sure to internally address it with each mill operator and get their individual feedback to ultimately ascertain a cause. This generally would lead to alterations within our annealing and rolling processes through our written corrective action reports. Regardless of the manner in which these occurrences were dealt with, it was my duty to handle such concerns of quality in each instance. I feel that I was very successful in performing these duties and believe my performance accurately represents my skill set and effectively substantiates my reputation as a hard-working, accomplished employee. Further, my interning experience at Globe Pequot Press in 2017 provided me with an excellent introduction to writing and analysis, as well as detailed researching, all of which have helped to shape me as an individual and a dedicated employee.
