As the Senior BI Analyst/Developer I was responsible for the administration and maintenance of our SAP Business Objects environment. I was also the lead developer on our extensive Crystal Reports implementation. As part of my administration work, I developed a range of solutions to help us better manage the environment specific to our needs. Central to this is a data warehouse that loads via SSIS using the SAP BO SDK. Combined with reports and analysis cubes this allows us to view a lot of details about how the environment is being used and how it is performing - beyond what the standard solutions from SAP can do. After only a few months this has already allowed us to move from reactive management to proactive.As the primary team member working with our client and customer facing BI capabilities, I also implemented the monthly distribution of local SSAS cubes to clients which allows them previously unavailable access to the data we hold on their behalf. This process has been set up so that everything is automated - the refreshing of the cubes and their distribution via SFTP.I also worked on projects to extend our BI capabilities including introducing Dashboarding, self-service solutions, etc. My role involved requirements gathering, solution design, development, training and delivery across a range of technologies (Oracle PL/SQL, SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SAP Business Objects, data warehouse development among others).

I was the franchisee for Daisy Hill. In the beginning I was the only member of the business so was involved in all aspects of the business. Towards the end of my ownership I stepped away from the service delivery aspect and hired a staff member to do this side of things. My role was to provide guidance and management for the employee as well as looking after all the background business issues (accounting, maintenance, etc).

After approximately 18 months as Data Manager, the IT department was restructured and my role was no longer required. I then took on the role of Technical Account Manager. This role involved liaising between clients and IT on technical (IT matters), data issues, project management of tasks, analysis of new requirements and other tasks that require a technical skillset.Shortly after taking on the Technical Account Manager role I was offered the chance to move to a Strategic Account Manager based on my skills at liaising with clients effectively and managing their expectations and delivering on their needs. The Strategic Account Manager is responsible for the traditional account management functions of the business (e.g. sales, support, relationship management) rather than focused on a client’s technical needs. It was a role that I did well at and gave me the confidence to try working for myself.

As the Data Manager, I oversaw the Data Management Team for the Assistance Operations business. This area of the business specialises in hosting customer management services and providing customer assistance services (e.g. Roadside Assistance) on behalf of many prestige automotive clients. I was responsible for the development and delivery of data extracts, reports, data fixes, data loading and other data quality tasks for external clients as well as overseeing the implementation and maintenance of data quality control programs for each individual client. Analysis of processes and review of proposed system changes/new system purchases also formed part of my duties. Often, when an issue arose with a system, or where a new process was being developed and advice on the best way to implement it in the system was required, I as called upon by the business. I also provided a conduit from the business to the other IT areas.The team had not previously existed within the business and I was responsible for developing the staff structure required (i.e. skill sets and number of resources required) as well as establishing all team processes and general work involved in getting a team of this nature off the ground. During my time in this role, I successfully maintained a positive working relationship between my team members and the members of the IT Team.

My role at John Deere Credit involved Crystal Reports and data extraction work with systems administration and help desk tasks. This commenced in January 2003 when I took over the Crystal environment. At this time there were very few reports and no real organisation or processes in place. With the implementation of new systems that year, all existing legal documents (eg finance contracts) needed to be converted form Word documents to Crystal Reports. In all, I converted approx 30-40 documents to Crystal Reports. I was also responsible for the administration of a sub-component of the production front end environment and was the backup administrator for the core back end system (Fiscal). I took a leading role in the development of the company’s Business Continuation and Disaster Recovery Plans, including the development and ongoing management. As a result of this, I established the company’s Backup & Recovery processes and oversaw their management.
