R&D Manufacturing Engineer Iii
Manufacturing Engineering Lead
• Responsible for driving sustainable change by implementing Lean / Six Sigma tools and methodologies in factory processes, leading them to be more reliable while reducing production costs.• Lead manufacturing engineering teams to drive improvements that affect quality, cost, safety and on time delivery of our products.• Line balancing, calculation of takt times, facility capacity analysis, and production layout design are among my tasks as a Manufacturing Engineering lead.• Experience in developing quality inspection criteria documentation for suppliers as well as for internal receiving inspection. These tools provide robust quality gates for cosmetic and functional defects on leather, metals, injection molded and vacuum formed parts.
Manufacturing Engineer
• Experience in working with cross functional departments to transition concepts through design phases such as Preliminary Design Review / Critical Design Review / Production Readiness Review / First Article Inspection, Product launch and after market sustaining efforts.• Coordinated the creation of prototypes to test and validate designs / requirements ahead of a product’s launch to minimize risk for production. • Deploy Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste and promote value added activities to increase business’ profit.• Responsible for overseeing product design reviews, detailed cost analyses for part and processes, make or buy decisions, planning strategic production layout, takt time / cycle time studies, design for manufacturing / assembly / quality and process standardizations.• Provide technical support in Spanish and English to engineers / mechanics / suppliers on-site and abroad (Asia, Europe, North America) on Bill of Materials, Drawings, CAD models, labor standards, tool design and manufacturing to reduce process variation. • I review and validate designs (CAD models, prototypes, drawings, manufacturing specs, requirements, etc.), work closely with supplier quality engineers to ensure we receive products per spec, perform Root Cause Analyses using Lean / Six Sigma tools, identify waste (over processing, transportation, bottlenecks, shortages, etc) using Lean methodologies for continuous improvements. • Among my daily tasks, I drive the industrialization of products, perform labor and material estimations, transfer operations to abroad locations to reduce operational costs, engineer facility capacity analysis to meet demand on time, work with ERP systems and continuously audit the quality of our products before shipping them to customers.
Methods Engineer
Methods Engineer (New Product Development) – I was involved in the Critical Design Review, Production Readiness and Production Launch phases of a complex project that had more than 40k parts. Analyzed BOMs and analyzed at which level assemblies should be bought or built in-house. Helped develop different excel macros to optimize time and data administration. Verified and assigned chemical/aesthetic finishes on materials (metals/composites) depending how and where parts/assemblies were used. Used Manufacturing Resource Planning software to load BOM structures of assemblies in the system; assigned commodity codes and linked parts to purchasing department where demand for parts is created. I worked constantly with engineers located abroad in Mexico, India, China, UK and Germany.Supply Chain Engineer (New products and Sustaining Products) - Provided critical engineering support in English and Spanish to suppliers in Asia, Europe and America as well as to our sourcing department. Answered questions on product manufacturability and addressed issues to design engineering. I worked with on-site / off-site engineers to increase efficiency and effectiveness of deliverables (Mexico, India, China, UK and Germany). Manufacturing Engineer (Product Launch/Sustaining) - I provided technical support to skilled technicians at the manufacturing lines. Issue engineering change requests, modification notices, non-conformance reports for defective/incomplete parts or assemblies. Verify which parts can be reworked and which ones can’t to optimize production schedules, budget and to meet demanding deadlines. Manufacturing, Materials and Design review board meetings were among my daily tasks. I stressed the importance of lean manufacturing to reduce inventory stock, increase quality, reduce rework, promote efficiency of processes and used FMEA to avoid failure modes in design for manufacturability.
Systems Engineer
• System Development Life Cycle Design (SDLC) methodologies were used to plan, create, test and deploy a complex system in an accelerated environment (9 months). • Took the project through systematic planning phases such as Conceptual Design Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews. • Created Use Cases for the system using UML, where several scenarios were visualized and tested.• Project management plans / frameworks were established. Concept of Operations (ConOps) documentation detailed the system requirements (functional, technological, performance, utilization of resource, trade off, system test/validation requirements) for the project. • System’s integration, testing, verification and validation phases for software and physical deliverable were accomplished. • As a team, we designed, modeled and simulated the integration of two sub-systems: a lean-ergonomic work station with a conveyor-belt to process Printed Circuit Boards and a software application that traces the origin and other related data of each component installed on the PCB.
Supply Chain Engineer Intern
I supported the relationship between design and suppliers to ensure that products were delivered to specification. I assembled technical packages to support the sourcing team with quotes and purchase order placements. Well understanding of how to read drawings, bill of materials and engineering procedure specs for production and non-production assemblies was developed. I assisted my team on questions they had on drawings, technical standards/specifications and raw materials required for parts. Quality engineering support was given to suppliers including audits/assessments, verification/validation activities and change management proposals. I developed technical procedures, information flowcharts and action code trackers to optimize the team’s efficiency.
Library Database Admin
As a database admin I managed accounts of over 300 students, supervised a resource database and generated criteria-based reports for collection with inventory software. I interacted with students from very diverse backgrounds and acquired cultural intelligence on how to work among cross cultural groups.
