This involved developing lesson plans, lecturing on communication and public speaking skills, grading presentations, and additional responsibilities as instructor of record.

During my time as a Graduate Assistant with DigiComm, I worked as part of the website content development team, used audio engineering to create podcasts and audio content, and tutored students and faculty to better help them develop the skills needed to produce more sophisticated and professional online content. I developed a series of feature stories to highlight DigiComm's Media Fellowship Program, where professors are paired with a media tutor to help facilitate a semester-long digital content project. This feature story series involves numerous interviews with the DigiComm media tutors and the faculty members they work with. My most recent project has been the creation of a series of podcast to highlight the positive impact former inmates have had on their communities after being released, entitled 'Second Chances'. I assisted in writing the scripts, and used audio editing software Adobe Audition to create the podcasts. These can be listened to through the link below.

As a Student Writer at Creative Services, I wrote feature stories for JMU's College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS) and College of Integrated Science and Engineering (CISE). This involved conducting numerous interviews with students, faculty, and alumni to acquire content about these individuals or their unique projects. I published 90 feature stories across a number of the University's websites. I also developed and helped implement the Creative Services Writing Style Guide to help other current and future student writers by providing clear formatting requirements for story content, email and other communication, and document file naming.

I worked in the University Writing Center as a learning tutor, where I provided guidance for students and faculty throughout the stages of the writing process. This included brainstorming topic ideas, teaching research techniques, improving paper or project organization, reviewing formatting issues, and copy editing once other higher level concerns are addressed. I also submitted client report forms following each session to maintain consistent and accurate database records.

As a member of the JMURJ Executive Board, I participated on the journal's editorial and marketing divisions. Responsibilities of each included working with a team of students to review journal submissions based on established criteria, helping manage the journal's Facebook presence, and redesigning emails and other marketing collateral to encourage students to submit their work. Larger projects that I completed included writing and implementing a procedural handbook for future board members to increase organization efficiency and consistency.

As a summer Student Assistant with the Shenandoah Valley SBDC, my responsibilities included working with the business counselors on client projects and events, maintaining the company's website, social media and blogging presence, developing marketing collateral for the SBDC including advertisements for local newspapers and journals, and assisting in office management tasks. While interning at the Roanoke Regional Small Business Development Center, I worked on a number of projects with the business counselors and their clients that gave me invaluable experience and a number of practical skills. I worked with experienced business counselors to develop marketing strategy reports for larger clients, including how to improve company website, branding, and social media presence. It was then my job to compile these strategies into marketing reports that were presented to eight local clients. I also helped maintain the company website and social media presence, such as through establishing the Roanoke SBDC LinkedIn page, updating and managing the Facebook profile, and setting up the social media management software HootSuite to help run all of the company's social marketing. I also learned how to use the basics of graphic design software Photoshop, which I then used to work with clients to develop marketing literature like business cards, posters, and postcards. Lastly I assisted at SBDC and Roanoke Chamber of Commerce events, and helped organize the internal company documentation.
