After working with LLMs for a year and launching Canopy's AI Coaching feature, I decided to focus full-time on studying GenAI. I switched to a part-time advisor role at Canopy to make this possible. I now support Canopy's AI projects while spending most of my time learning about generative AI.

I joined as CTO of Know Your Company, a 37signals spin-off that helped CEOs improve team building and visibility. We rebranded to Canopy and grew our product line. My co-founder and I bootstrapped from low six figures to $1M ARR in 3 years, then expanded to a team of 8, regularly outperforming larger, VC-backed rivals.I wrote a significant portion of our core product, contributing to our 180,000-line Ruby on Rails and JavaScript codebase. We maintained high uptime and code quality while iterating quickly, and achieved top-tier customer support ratings. Two of our products hit low monthly churn (single digits) and high NPS scores. During this time, I built and led a product team of 4.In 2024, I developed our AI Coaching feature using GPT-4 and a RAG system. This involved creating a production pipeline that automatically generated transcripts from our video lessons. I handled all prompt engineering, data preparation, and built an eval system using Promptfoo.At Canopy, I did both technical work and product/business strategy.

After leading the web team through a successful new version launch, I moved on to support multiple teams as Director of Product. As Web Development Team Lead, I took on diverse responsibilities beyond coding. I represented our team in cross-functional projects, refined our interview process, and mentored new hires. My role involved managing four concurrent web projects and coordinating our team's efforts. I also set up our GTM infrastructure, including A/B testing and marketing tools.During this time, we successfully launched a major IFTTT update. Our web team developed APIs for mobile and all user-facing web products. We boosted signup activation rates and introduced four significant new products. In 2017, we won the Webby Awards popular vote, with our team's work playing an important role.

Joined a senior full-stack engineer working on a high-traffic Ruby on Rails project serving millions of users. Initially supported the VP of Product with setting up product analytics and growth experiments. Later, led the development for a key project enabling IFTTT Recipe embedding in partner apps.Played an important role in redesigning our architecture, transitioning from a 5-year-old monolith to independent services. This shift was instrumental in launching a new version of IFTTT.

At Starter League, I evolved from a volunteer Ruby on Rails instructor to a full-time senior developer and designer. I led a team in developing an internal learning management system, which we later launched as a SaaS product.Our partnership with 37signals (creators of Basecamp) provided an unique opportunity. I participated in weekly product review sessions with CEO Jason Fried, learning important insights into product strategy and Jobs-to-be-done research.As an instructor, I helped create the curriculum for Starter School, a pioneering 9-month program. This intensive course combined design, engineering, and business, setting it apart from typical coding bootcamps. I implemented a project-oriented teaching style emphasizing hands-on experience and mentorship.The acquisition of Starter League in 2015 led to the adaptation of our curriculum for high school students, extending the impact of our educational approach.

I co-founded and ran Objetiva, a consultancy in Brazil, for three years. We specialized in problematic or late projects, working with diverse teams and products - from government software to startup MVPs. I'm proud to have kept our team small, profitable from day one, and delivering all projects on time.

At that time, eGenial was one of the leading online tech training platforms in Brazil. I worked as instructor and program manager in charge of coming up with new courses, finding and managing the instructors. We went from 4 active courses to more than 15 in less than 6 months. I had the opportunity to teach Flex, Ruby, Rails, TDD, Javascript, CSS and GIT to over a thousand students. I also helped organize conferences and spoke at events such as RubyConf.
