About Danika Munro (Vautour)

Danika Vautour is a Canadian visual artist who has been working as a ceramist for the past 9 years.Having completed her studies at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, she has a strong foundation in fine craft ceramics, as well as photography, drawing, and painting. In a world with many distractions, her work is profoundly influenced by minimalism and a life lived by the sea.Over the years, she has had the privilege of participating in numerous exhibitions and collaborations both nationally and internationally and has been graciously recognised by her peers through various accolades. For a brief period of time, she lived in England where she immersed herself in the local ceramics community, which served as a source of inspiration and a platform for her to refine and teach her craft. Since returning to New Brunswick, she has continued to establish herself as a full-time artist and has been involved with the local arts community. By leveraging her experience, she aims to foster artistic growth and community engagement across the province. She enjoys producing work that plays with abstracted ideas that highlight the simple, yet beautiful characteristics found in nature that are often overlooked. By incorporating these elements into her work, she hopes to bring that sense of calmness into the spaces they inhabit. When she’s not in the midst of organizing community events, she can be found exploring creatively and developing her portfolio.

In this dynamic and fast-paced environment, I have honed my multitasking skills to ensure seamless operations and exceptional customer service. My role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including providing top-notch assistance to walk-in customers, answering phone inquiries, and taking accurate orders, with a special focus on sympathy and funeral arrangements. I ensure all phone lines are answered promptly, accurately taking and processing orders, and managing wedding consultations and plans with brides. In addition, I manage the owner's schedule, answer emails, create and file invoices, handwrite card messages, and use a Cricut machine to make larger greeting cards. My inventory management duties involve intaking and processing fresh flowers, cleaning buckets, handling orders of ceramic pots, checking for breakages or damaged flowers, and ensuring all inventory is accounted for. I also help maintain plants throughout the premises, occasionally deliver flowers, and wrap orders for pick-up and delivery. Furthermore, I maintain the website, write newsletters, manage social media accounts, and create, film, and photograph new content. My ability to juggle multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality and customer satisfaction has been crucial in this role.

Ceramist & Owner

As a ceramist and business owner, my responsibilities extend far beyond working at the potter's wheel. I spend a significant amount of time preparing and recycling clay, loading and operating the kiln, writing and testing the chemical composition of new glaze recipes, and mixing and applying glazes to my work.I'm the photographer, studio technician, marketing manager, content creator, video editor, sales representative, shipping and dispatch coordinator, bookkeeper, grant writer, and so much more. These tasks highlight the multifaceted nature of my work, much like that of many small business owners.

Despite the gallery's unforseen closure, I was able to grow in my role as a Gallery Assistant. My responsibilities included assisting clients, selling fine jewellery and taking in repairs, overseeing the sale of fine craft and visual art. I also handled inventory, performed administrative tasks, arranged displays and gallery rehangs, and assisted in the gallery's online presence. I started working at Kiln Cambridge from the moment they opened. My role evolved, as did the studio. My main responsibilities were ensuring the smooth operation of a communal ceramic studio. This entailed loading and firing kilns, mixing studio glazes, mentoring members, assisting with classes and teaching one to one sessions, receiving material deliveries, inventory, assisting with the coordination of events, and most importantly, maintaining the cleanliness of the studio. This was crucial to ensure it was a safe environment to work in and to also keep the levels of silica in the air minimal, reducing the health risks of working in a ceramic studio.
