As a ceramist and business owner, my responsibilities extend far beyond working at the potter's wheel. I spend a significant amount of time preparing and recycling clay, loading and operating the kiln, writing and testing the chemical composition of new glaze recipes, and mixing and applying glazes to my work.I'm the photographer, studio technician, marketing manager, content creator, video editor, sales representative, shipping and dispatch coordinator, bookkeeper, grant writer, and so much more.These tasks highlight the multifaceted nature of my work, much like that of many small business owners.

I started working at Kiln Cambridge from the moment they opened. My role evolved, as did the studio. My main responsibilities were ensuring the smooth operation of a communal ceramic studio. This entailed loading and firing kilns, mixing studio glazes, mentoring members, assisting with classes and teaching one to one sessions, receiving material deliveries, inventory, assisting with the coordination of events, and most importantly, maintaining the cleanliness of the studio. This was crucial to ensure it was a safe environment to work in and to also keep the levels of silica in the air minimal, reducing the health risks of working in a ceramic studio.

I was hired for this position to help alleviate the stress faced by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour leading up to the Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) program. I was responsible for the data entry and management of the SEED applicants in our region. While this was my main responsibility I was also able to help other members of our team with administrative work, including but not limited to: the screening process for the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) applications, proof reading the Working NB Virtual Job Fair in its early stages, and giving the daily presentations about the Training, Skills, and Development (TSD) program to members of the public.
