I am a part of the ESRLab's platform team.What I have done so far:- Led a performance issues investigation of one of the main apps of one of the major car manufacturer’s AOSP-fork, proposed a list of optimizations improving startup time up to 50% (using Perfetto and Android Studio profiling tools).- Conducted a system-wide performance investigation of the AOSP-fork, identified a major system problem that leads to performance issues.- Developed a small local performance analysis Python tool, used to test system performance improvements.- Developed a HAL to enable communication between user-space Android apps with an external display with custom communication protocol (Rust, Java and C++).

Android Performance Engineer at Avito, large classified advertisement company (100M+ downloads, millions of active users).Key Responsibilities:- Developed tooling to optimize app performance: scroll smoothness, memory usage and screen drawing time.- Supervised and analyzed the impact of A/B tests on the app's performance.- Assisted and led app performance research and optimization efforts.Achievements:- Introduced QUIC http protocol, achieving a 20% faster network requests, up to 10% quicker screen loads, and a 50% reduction in network errors.- Developed a system of memory leaks detection, reducing the number of background app kills by 10%.- Created a system of scroll performance monitoring, preventing up to a 50% slowdown of scrolling performance.- Conducted extensive research of the relationship between performance KPIs and user experience.- Led an in-depth interview among colleagues to understand their performance-related needs. Used this feedback to develop a Python-based system that alerts feature teams about potential performance issues.

As the driving force behind the project, I managed a broad spectrum of roles including both technical and operational aspects.Technical Contributions:- Developed a cross-platform mobile app using Flutter (40k LoC, 23 screens).- Engineered the backend using Kotlin and ktor (18k LoC).- Actively contributed to the open-source project, Open Food Facts, which was used as Plante's product database.- Established an internal web service dedicated to user content moderation.Leadership & Operations:- Led and mentored a team of ~20 volunteers, encompassing developers, designers, translators, and moderators.- Engaged proactively with our user community, ensuring their feedback was incorporated and issues resolved promptly.Milestones & Closure:- Secured a grant from the Pollination Project and advanced discussions with other grant-giving organizations.- At its peak, the project organically achieved a user base spanning the USA, Europe, and Asia, with hundreds actively engaged.- Regrettably, the project was halted in February 2022 due to the war affecting several team members.

- Developed and provided technical oversight for sophisticated app features that lived in Java, Kotlin and C++, incorporated both Chromium and Yandex Browser code bases.- Diagnosed and fixed low-level extremely difficult bugs and crashes.- Regularly profiled and optimized the app using various Chromium tools, preventing up to a 3% drop in DAU.- Continuously reviewed overall app performance, leading optimization efforts.

Ported and maintained the Android version of a game:- ported the game from Windows to Android (C++, Java, Android NDK, Android SDK, JNI, JNA, SWIG)- maintained and improved common Android-libs of the game studio (billing, notifications, ...)- integrated many third-party SDKs (Fabric, Google Play Games Services, Facebook, DevToDev, ...)- created and maintained an in-game bot, which was used for game automated testing- created and maintained game components (achievements, battle replays, ...)- debugged and fixed sophisticated low-level bugs in code with usage of VLD, GDB, ValgrindWhile working helped to improve development process by initiating broad usage of C++11 for cross-platform development and by initiating usage of SWIG for Android development.
