What motivates a child to persevere through challenges, and how does their sense of autonomy shape learning? These questions lie at the heart of my internship, where I work with children facing a range of neurodevelopmental challenges— currently primarily those with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).Under the guidance of Dr. Dorothee Jelsma and Sander Panneman, I actively engage in small-group intervention sessions, taking on roles that range from observing and analyzing to directly instructing and supporting the children. We use The Observational Training Tool (OTT)—a specialized instrument developed by Dr. Marina Schoemaker, Dr. Dorothee Jelsma, Dr. Bouwien Smits-Engelsman, and Jorine Schoenmaker, MSc—that captures the dynamics of motor skills training and its impact on learning and motivation.In my role, I balance being an instructor, an observer, and an analyst. I guide children through activities, provide hands-on support, and delve into how trainers communicate—both verbally and non-verbally—while documenting how factors such as motivational climate, autonomy, and learning strategies shape developmental progress. My work involves comparing different intervention strategies, such as high- versus medium-frequency approaches, and documenting the nuanced distinctions between methods employed by physiotherapists and physical educators.This internship is an exploration of the mechanisms of human potential. The data we gather and the support we provide serve not only to refine the OTT but also to contribute meaningfully to our understanding of what makes effective learning possible. By merging clinical practice with reflective philosophical inquiry, I strive to deepen our grasp of both the methods we use and the meaning behind them.

Quality of teaching, course evaluations, (un)solicited advice to the faculty board—everything on behalf of the students of Philosophy, Science, and Humanities.I’m the student contact point, the sounding board, the voice you reach out to when you've got something to say; even if only through silence. Thoughts, questions, concerns, rants, and raves—all are salutary. We embody, embed, enact, and extend the hearts and minds of our faculty to drown out the hum of bureaucracy and buffer the impact of backward governmental educational clampdowns.
