About Edgar Daniel Dela Peña
I am a budding molecular biologist seeking to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the biological sciences. My interests include telomere biology, dynamics of chromosomes during meiotic and somatic recombination, mechanisms of DNA repair pathways, and structural and functional analysis of associated proteins and supramolecular assemblies. I am currently in my research year as a biology undergraduate majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology at the Ateneo de Manila University. My thesis involves structural analysis of enzymes and transcription factors vital for telomere synthesis, focusing on their interactions with select inhibitory ligands derived from Philippine native plants. The effector events that follow these interactions, especially concerning telomere DNA length, are investigated and the possibility thereof as a strategy for treatment and prevention of cancers is explored.
