About Danilo Di Stefano
As an Italian Chartered Engineer with a Laurea Magistralis in Aeronautical Engineering awarded from La Sapienza of Rome, a PhD in Computational Aeroacoustics awarded from the University of Leicester (UK), I am currently working at Capital One as Software Developer in Testing.In my previous experience I worked for 2 years and a half at Rolls Royce Derby site as an external consultant by Alten Ltd. My main task was the architectural design and development of new software for aeronautical engines application using both python and NPSS (non-commercial). I also collaborated to the UI design and development of the new software using Qt library with Python, as well as to the writing of the documentation relative to the code (for instance user and developer guide).I completed my PhD in July 2018 at the University of Leicester, where I worked as a Marie Curie Fellow within the AeroTraNet2 Project. The project aimed to investigate and model the jet noise phenomenon through numerical and experimental simulations across the partners’ network. I personally developed a noise estimation tool in Python, using an integral method (acoustic analogy).My background is in Aeronautical Engineering. In March, 2011 I got my Master’s Degree at La Sapienza in Rome. As an undergraduate, I attended the Aerospace Engineering Faculty, getting my BSc degree in 2008.

Working in Rolls Royce Derby on behalf of Alten Ltd. As Alten consultant I am involved in activities within the Alten Methods & Software team such as knowledge capturing and sharing and tasks assignment. The aeronautical engineering background allows to better comprehend the models to implement in the new software, especially in terms of the physical meaning of equations and quantities to estimate. This helps also in the preliminary design of the models to be integrated in the software.

Design and development of software for application in aircraft engines, specifically to predict how atmospheric agents (such as hail, ice, dust, ...) affects the engine performance/life. The project covers the whole software development cycle from design of the architecture and of the UI to the final implementation and writing of the relative documentation for both users/developers. The software is implemented in collaboration with a team of three software developers. The languages used are Python with Qt designer for the GUI and NPSS (C++ based) for the core calculations. Part of the development implies porting Excel+VBA tools in the new software.
