Danilo R. D. Aguiar is a Professor of Economics at Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil, where he has also served for 4+ years as the inaugural Dean of the College of Management and Technology, as well as Economics graduate and undergraduate programs coordinator. He holds a B.S. degree in Agronomy and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. His research and teaching focus on climate change economics and policy and his current topics of interest are biofuel policies, biofuel-related greenhouse gas mitigation, and carbon market efficiency. In 2023, he served as Fulbright Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies at Purdue University where he taught “Responses to Climate Change” at the John Martinson Honors College and conducted research in the Department of Agricultural Economics. Previously, he was a faculty member at Federal University of Viçosa and at São Paulo State University, in Brazil, and he was also a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Davis, and at Purdue University. Dr. Aguiar has supervised more than 30 M.S. and Ph.D. students and has authored more than 100 publications including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books, and conference papers. He has received awards from the Brazilian Society of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology for outstanding research and publication and has also been advisor of the thesis awarded the 2002’s Brazilian Futures Exchange Prize on Agricultural Derivatives. Dr. Aguiar has also been the recipient of several research grants and fellowships from institutions such as Fulbright Foundation, Purdue University, FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation), CNPq (Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), CIRAD (French Agricultural Research Center for International Development), SEBRAE (Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service), and Brazilian Futures Exchange. By means of his classes, talks and publications, Professor Aguiar intends to engage more people from different academic disciplines in the climate change discussion.
