If I may share some poetry, I wrote a haiku that captures the essence of how I engage with community:One drop ripples, buta thousand drops birth new life.Together, we rain. And it is this togetherness that I shape the meaning of my life with. By working together, we can transform our communities and build a positive peace. By working together, we can overcome the social and economic challenges of our time so that we may prosper—so that our children may prosper. This is deeper than money. By working together we can create healthy, sustainable communities that flourish for the benefit of our collective wellbeing. This is what community wealth development is all about, and I have spent my entire life learning to appreciate the value of collective participation.I come from humble beginnings. At 11 years old, my brothers and I started working to help pay my mothers rent and buy food. She was very sick, and we had to work together to survive. The job was drilling holes in washers with a drill press in the garage. We were paid 15 cents a piece and could complete about 4 pieces a minute. It was enough to pay the bills. After all this, I missed the lesson of my experience and ended up living on the streets for almost a year when I was 18 years' old. It was then that I learned the true value of working together. I learned that If I continued to try and compete on my own, I wouldn't survive. More to the point, I didn't want to just survive. I wanted to thrive. I wanted a community. This experience cemented my a resolve to not only change my myself, but the systems that failed me and my family as well. Since then, I have done everything I can to expand my knowledge, my worldview, and my ability to engage in community. After getting myself into college, I joined the honors English program to build a network and learn how to communicate with a wider audience. And every job experience after my undergrad has been directed towards expanding my capacity to connect with others. Marketing was the first stop, but it wasn't enough. I quickly transitioned into public service so that I could work with people directly. That got me farther, but I needed more depth. I earned a master's degree in peacebuilding and conflict transformation, committing my life to serving communities wherever I am, so that we might build value together and enjoy the benefits of community wealth through shared value and collective impact. And now, I stand before you with humility, asking if you will join me, so that we can make it rain.

Rural Innovation Ecosystem Builder—Team LeaderCenter On Rural Innovation Jul 2021 - Jul 2022Springfield, Vermont, United StatesAs a Vista Leader serving at the Center on Rural Innovation (CORI), I led a team of 8 Vista Volunteers across six rural communities in the US. Our team was tasked with implementing digital skilling programs for low-income residents and marginalized communities facing structural and social barriers to accessing digital economic opportunities. Through this effort, we have been developing digital economic ecosystems by connecting job seekers to digital skilling programs that align with local and remote employer tech needs. As the team lead, I facilitated four multi-day, in-person and remote training events, focused on building effective multi-cultural teams through establishing clear communication norms and practicing shared leadership as a cohort. In addition to leading weekly team meetings, project syncs, and professional development workshops, I also worked directly with a team of six CORI Vista Site Leaders who supervised the day-to-day activities of the Vista members located in their community. Through the framework of a shared leadership model, I collaborated with our community site leaders to align program objectives across all six communities and improve the efficiency of activities currently being implemented through the CORI VISTA Program. To facilitate this level of collaboration, I led bi-weekly Site Leader meetings, which involved presenting information about team performance, program goals, and addressing challenges to implementation. Over a one year period leading these meetings, I developed workshops that identified common interests, program values, communication norms, and expectations of the group in an effort to evaluate the pilot program and improve upon the designs for future cohorts. To this end, I designed a new program structure with more flexible activities connected to long term outcomes that could be measured sustainably, created (and recruited for) new VISTA roles with job descriptions, and expanded the program to new communities. -

Graduate Research AssistantThe Carter Center Aug 2018 - Aug 2019Atlanta, GeorgiaI was hired to evaluation the Carter Center’s Access to Justice Program in Liberia. To complete this evaluation, I was tasked with performing in-depth quantitative and qualitative research directed towards measuring the impact of this multi-million-dollar (and multi-faceted) program over a twelve-year period. This research involved detailed programmatic design and implementation evaluations set within the context of the Liberian justice and governance systems from the local level to the national level. In total, I was expected to provide a full report of all activities (outputs) produced by the Access to Justice Program, identify the outcomes of these activities, and measure their impact across an array of variables that demonstrated improvements in the quality of justice, quality of governance, and quality of peace within Liberia, which the Carter Center contributed to. Through this process, I identified key “lessons learned” for how future programs of this nature could develop effectively, while managing donor interests and stakeholder needs from within a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework. -

Soon after, I was promoted to a content strategist, where I developed an in-house content strategy for the custom-website department that optimized content and website development processes and improved the implementation of content driven marketing practices for our clients. Upon incorporating these process management changes, I began consulting hundreds of small business clients on the development of their own online content marketing strategies.
