About Danisha Nava

I am a first-generation Latina and a proud Electrical Engineering student at Northern Illinois University (NIU), currently in my 4th year (Junior standing). My academic journey began as a Chemistry major, but I soon realized it wasn’t the right fit for me. After taking time to explore my interests, I found my passion in Electrical Engineering through a pivotal counseling class. I knew I wanted to pursue something math-intensive, but without becoming a math teacher. Through trial and error, I discovered my love for circuits, components, and hands-on lab work. Although adjusting to this new field was challenging, I’ve persevered, and I’m now more motivated than ever.In addition to my studies, I hold leadership roles as the Treasurer for the NIU Society of Women Engineers and a leader in the faith-based organization Alpha Omega Huskies, where I assist in leading Bible studies. I am also involved in multiple organizations, including the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), Robotics Club, Bread for the World, Rewriting the Code, Girls Who Code, and Latinas in Tech.Beyond engineering, I am passionate about traveling and cultural awareness. I recently studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain—an incredible experience that opened my eyes to different cultures and strengthened my knowledge of branding. During my time abroad, I also had the opportunity to visit Rome, Italy, making lifelong friends and memories.I am currently seeking a Summer 2025 internship in Electrical Engineering or Product Management. With my graduation expected in May 2026, I am excited to attend the SWE and SHPE 2024 conferences to network with fellow students and recruiters. I look forward to where this journey will take me!
