I have been working as a Public Policy Researcher within ICF’s Survey, Policy, Health, Environment, Regulation, and Economics (SPHERE) Line of Business for 2 years. I have supported several regulatory and rule-making efforts, including public comment analysis and development of comment summaries. Other experience has included conducting literature reviews, citation analysis, technical writing assignments, and quality control reviews. I have gained experience utilizing editing tools, such as, Adobe Acrobat Pro software and supported many Federal agencies including, the Department of Transportation, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, and many more.

In partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the University of Costa Rica, Michigan State University (MSU) provided a 10-week engineering research internship in Costa Rica. This provided me with experience in researching integrated treatment systems for sustainable energy and water reclamation in Central America. My specific project involved developing a methodology to enhance the solar-bio integration in anaerobic digestion waste treatment by running a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).Accomplishments:•Researched quantitative environmental impact data for flat plate solar collectors•Developed engineering methods to enhance solar-bio integration for anaerobic digestion•Expanded technical skills by calibrating flat plate sensors, installing solar thermocouples, and analyzing life cycle data in SimaPro•Interpreted and summarized literature comparing the environmental impact of solar collector production in the United States, Costa Rica, and China •Improved professional communication skills in Spanish through daily interactions with Costa Rican faculty, staff, and students

The Office of Sustainability Internship Program combined real-world projects with practical, skill-based professional development courses to prepare students for a career in the sustainability field. The internship program encouraged my creativity, collaboration and communication skills, and improved my time management while being a full-time student. My fellow interns and I learned what it is like to enter a constantly changing world and work in a constantly changing field.Accomplishments: ● Identified national and campus-wide energy issues and brainstormed solutions● Executed 3 major sustainability-focused semester projects● Evaluated and interpreted data produced from semester projects● Collaborated with multiple campus organizations (Students for Sustainable Practice and Society of Renewable Resources) to develop various requests for proposals, including paperless receipts at all dining halls

During this internship, I worked with a team to develop feasible strategies for how international pension funds can be used to further the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These strategies were defended in written reports and during presentations at the 2016 Global Solutions Summit. Presentations included how pension funds work and the investment requirements set by those fund providers.

As a work-study participant, my position at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine’s (VMRCVM) pharmacy gave me the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and responsibility while pursuing my degree as a full-time student. I assisted in filing prescriptions veterinarians and veterinary students dropped off, sometimes requiring fast turn-arounds. I had some experience making medications, while under supervision from our pharmacist. Other duties included administrative and bookkeeping tasks, inventory control, stocking shelves, and data entry. Accomplishments: •Assisted pharmacist in filling prescriptions and refills, as well as delivery of medication•Developed excellent communication skills while addressing customers by phone •Demonstrated capability of dealing with high-paced, stressful situations •Learned how to analyze drug policies and regulations•Learned about different types of medicines, their properties, uses, and policies

The Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) is a leader in water reclamation and a high performance treatment facility in Northern Virginia. During my internship with UOSA, I was responsible for performing progressively difficult tasks and working independently as well as in conjunction with highly skilled and experienced employees. Other responsibilities included conducting process studies, analysis of existing data, conducting field tests to measure plant performance, and performing laboratory tests associated with process chemistry.Accomplishments: ●Used Microsoft Excel to compose and evaluate numerous charts, graphs, and figures from data gathered in the field by environmental test equipment ●Expanded knowledge of environmental testing equipment and sampling of wastewater procedures by using nitrogen meters, flow meters, and fixing a malfunctioning turbidity meter ●Accomplished confined space training and completed 2 confined space entries ●Performed independent tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
