I'm trained as a mechanical engineer with specialisation in fluid mechanics. During my M.Sc I found a wonderful group of individuals keen on the development of hydrogen fuel cells; it was an exciting time to get involved in a field where there were many opportunities to identify gaps in the knowledge and attempt to fill them.My first career was as a fluid mechanics consultant specialising in consequence analysis for the oil and gas industry. With Atkins / Kent I learned a great deal about the application of classical fluid mechanics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to a wide range of engineering questions, from process safety to atmospheric flows, from flammable gas dispersion/dilution and its application to ATEX to the hydrodynamics of floating systems. On my 15+ year journey with Atkins I developed professionally as well as technically, eventually leading a team of >20 engineers at its peak, and managing several key clients for the team.In 2021 I pivoted to a role close to my heart, in the green energy sector. When I joined AFC Energy it was undergoing significant changes as a business. I joined to manage the services group on the fuel cells side of the business (testing/simulation/characterisation), but given the dynamic nature of the business I was able to lend my hand to many tasks contributing to the commercialisation of the technology. I am now responsible for the engineering delivery of AFC Energy's air cooled fuel cell platform as it matures further along its productisation journey.
