Merger of 2 colleges, Sussex Coast & Sussex Downs to form a new college, East Sussex College Group. 20,000 students, 1,500 staff across 8 campuses within East Sussex, the largest FE provider in the county. Initially tasked to do due diligence of the network infrastructure of the additional campuses acquired and take on the operational tasks, (Sussex Downs was around twice the size of Sussex Coast). Once staffing levels had been fulfilled, moved on to building a new domain (ESCG) and planning the user migration process. Lead Engineer on project managing the 1,500-user migration process from the 2 legacy domains to a new college network. We partnered with Quest for the migration tools, (user account migration and mail from local Exchange to Exchange Online in the new domain), and Symity to off board the Sussex Coast users from an aging CISCO telephony system to the Skype instance used within Sussex Downs whilst ensuring a seamless transition for the end user with no loss of access to resources. Expanded the DR solution (VEEAM) to the newly acquired estates, and undertaken a VMware host hardware refresh. Assisted in implementing a college wide Wi-Fi upgrade to Meraki AP’s and switches. Working with JISC, setup and deployed Eduroam campus wide with access available at other hosts of the service. Currently working on a server consolidation project to reduce the 250+ backend servers (physical and virtual), and audit the 300+ network shares, either by migrating or archiving to Teams/SharePoint sites to reduce our on-site footprint, whilst still maintaining/upgrading the network infrastructure and providing 3rd line support to the ticking system TOPdesk.
