ESW enables global cross border e-commerce in 170+ countries for leading consumer brands including Nike. Our architecture is based on MACH ( Microservices, API first, Cloud, Headless ) on Azure with a global multiregion high availablity footprint using Kubernetes. I lead our Global Engineering Team of 250 engineers as we build out our capabilities to support the growth of ESW.

Wynshop is the leader in the eGrocery Commerce space providing end to end services for Enterprise Grocery companies with our MACH platform. Our platform is event sourced with an event driven micro services architecture deployed on the Google cloud in Kubernetes. Our API first approach offers robust capabilities and empowers Retailers to either use our reference solutions or build their own experiences or integrations. We also leverage PBCs to offer subset of functionality.I lead the Architecture, Engineering and Quality teams in Wynshop who continue to innovate and grow the platform.

Leading our R&D Engineering Teams, Customer Success Engineering and our Hosting and Operations Teams as we continue on our transformation to an Agile delivery organisation with a Headless eCommerce service based on a Cloud Native, MicroServices Event Driven Architecture along with complementary Digital Marketing, Advertising and Media services.

Leading our Professional Services Team consisting of 135 resources across three centers in USA, Ireland and Romania, I have responsibility for ensuring successful customer deliveries of MWG solutions based on our DEP Platform.

Following the acquisition of Buy4now in 2014, I led an R&D and services teams of 40 resources based in Dublin developing a high volume, highly scalable SOA based eCommerce platform . The platform was based on IoC architecture, data driven architecture, extensible by plugins, IoC replacement, Events, Message driven communication and state machine models for event driven interactions. The platform has been successfully implemented across multiple verticals such as fashion, toys and financial products in Ireland, UK and USA.

In 2008 following our successful sale of our US business to MWG and with the support of our investors, I led a re-structure of Buy4now along with Michael Veale and Kevin Murray to re-focus the business on eCommerce solutions in Ireland and the UK.We invested in new platforms for Grocery ( V6, V7) and successfully launched Musgrave eCommerce in 2009. In addition, we developed the V4 GM Platform for customer such as Arnotts, Currys/PC World, Elverys and RTE. We also began the development of a next gen platform (Marsantas) based on best practice SOA architecture and successfully launched A-Wear across 5 geographies, 4 currencies and multiple sites.

Buy4now was founded with the support of Fergal Quinn in 2000. As a founder and CTO, I led the technology implementation leveraging local resources, partners and third party software to successfully launch the service at Internet speed in September 2000.Pivoting into selling Grocery Software , we successfully sold our solution into 6 enterprise customers in the US market between 2003 and 2008 before selling our US business to MWG in September 2008.

I had responsibility for the design, build and management of line of business applications both custom and package to support the the mission of An Bord Trachtala (Irish Trade Board) and later Enterprise Ireland.My team and I built an integrated global information system to support the mission of Enterprise Ireland containing profiles on all all Irish companies who had a relationship with the Irish Trade Board. This solution facilitated full sharing of information across 26 offices worldwide and also was the basis for integration to other systems including Financial, Regulatory, Time Management and External Web sites. We were one of the first companies to roll out Microsoft Exchange globally working with Tony Redmond and the Compaq Messaging center of excellence.

Based in Sheffield UK, I was working on the design and development of a solution to support the privatization of the vocational training and education function in the British Civil Service. I was retained to design and develop subsystems using the Ingres relational database, 4GL and C.

Working on the design and development of a data warehouse solution to enable the KIO who had £35 Billion under management to provide dealers with upto date positions every morning following overnight settlements.I had a great time working in the City and still have fond memories of the Vaults. The Iraq Invasion happened in spring 1990 and changed things a bit,.

Based in Apple's Euro HQ in Paris, I was hired to solve performance problems Apple were experiencing during the implementation of the Apple CDB System . My intimate knowledge of the C programming language ( having written compilers during my Masters program) plus my knowledge of relations systems enabled me to build workarounds to complex query optimization problems.

I was designing and developing a production automation solution for Waterford Crystal for their crystal solids manufacturing plant. This was based on a UNIX platform integrated in real time with PLCs, Scanners, Conveyors and MicroTerminals to control the production process. It was a brilliant project and I learned a huge amount about programming Unix. I still have the "Advanced Programming for Unix" by Marc J Rochkind. Blackbird was a great startup which later went on to be acquired by Zetes.
