In this role, I provide strategy, finance, and operational consulting services directly to companies or through private equity clients. Particular areas of focus include strategic realignments, turnarounds, operating efficiency and structure, capital planning, fundraising, expense management, and personnel development.

As Senior Turnaround Officer, I directed turnaround focused on financial performance, operations, balance sheet recapitalization, and preparation of business for sale. I developed comprehensive roadmap with supply chain optimization, unprofitable retail location closure, SG&A expense reduction, reduction in force, and technology transformation. I also guided 5-year pro forma financials, 13-week cash flow model, financial analysis and forecasting, budget management, process improvement, and expense reductions. Managed prospective investor and buyer presentations, coordination with investment bankers, due diligence, and accounting and technology staff decisions. A few of my key achievements include:▸Designed purchasing and pricing model with fully loaded product costs, geographic differences, and demand elasticity with anticipated top-line revenue and gross margins growth of 6 bps within 12 months.▸Reduced operating expenses $16M within 12 months and increased inventory velocity 200%.▸Maximized retail sales and inventory turnover rates, resulting in annualized EBITDA impact of $14M.▸Introduced enhanced freight-out practices, driving efficiency and reducing expenses by $6M annually.▸Overhauled supply chain system, reducing breakage by 60%, shrinkage by 40%, and broken cases 33%, saving $10M+ annually.▸Analyzed aggregate retail store footprint and corresponding 4-wall P&L, identified 264 stores operating at 1% EBITDA, and implemented strategy to reveal strong regional network with combined gross margins of 11% with superior rent and distribution economics.▸Reduced operating losses by 40%+ totaling $30M+ within 6 months, putting company on track to achieve profitability within 1 year.

As Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of ReadyCap Commercial, I led strategic activities with 4 direct reports and 60 employees, including $300M P&L, lending operations, and business intelligence systems. I also remained in position as Head of IT for parent company and subsidiaries. Two of my key contributions:▸Redesigned lending workflow and integrated with custom in-house enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. ▸Provided supportive leadership to combined workforce remotely during COVID pandemic.

In this role, I performed due diligence on potential M&A targets and oversaw IT operations with a team of 2 direct reports and 20 employees. I also coordinated special projects in partnership with COO. A few of my key achievements include:▸Implemented RFP process, vendor selection and planning for new accounting system to gain independence from external management’s systems. ▸Completed due diligence on 3 potential acquisitions and completed acquisition of merchant cash advance company. ▸Supported COO in management of ReadyCap Commercial, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ready Capital Corporation.

As Senior Vice President of Capital Markets, Corporate Secretary, and Chief Compliance Officer, I served as member of senior management team and Chief Compliance Officer by developing capital market strategy and managing executive-level initiatives across capital markets, LP and institutional investor relations, shareholder activism, legal, and regulatory compliance. Managed end-to-end board governance, investor roadshows, investor relations, earnings conference call scripts, annual shareholder meetings, share repurchase program, SEC and NYSE compliance, and public earnings call Q&A sessions. I built relationships with institutional investors, investment bankers, market makers, NYSE staff, activist legal defense, IR advisory firms, transfer agents, proxy solicitors, financial printers, Broadridge, DTC, and ISS/Glass Lewis. I also participated in the development and editing of SEC filings. Key achievements include:▸Oversaw proxy defense against activities investors, resulting in white knight acquisition by Ready Capital Corporation. ▸Co-managed conversion of $350M Owens Mortgage Investment Fund into publicly traded REIT on NYSE American. ▸Planned and executed 4 annual investor roadshows, growing market cap by 110% from listing to sale. ▸Advanced goals by managing relationships with LP’s and institutional investors, prospective shareholder outreach and due diligence, proxy voting, 10b5-1 stock repurchase program, and analysis and presentation to board of external REIT management company internalization proposal.▸Managed M&A due diligence process and post-closing integration of merger with Ready Capital Corporation.▸Participated in responding to Q&A from investor community on earnings conference calls.▸Managed all aspects of corporate board governance for 5+ years including director onboarding, board communication, board meeting agendas, preparation and management of board books and materials, meeting minutes, and board member SEC and NYSE compliance.

The Center for Advanced Technology was a seed-stage venture capital fund and accelerator with the mission to commercialize technologies and ideas originating at UC Berkeley. The firm provided entrepreneurs with business formation, seed capital, executive advisors and office space in an environment designed to accelerate the concept-to-market process. As Managing Director, I was responsible for LP investor relations, deal prospecting, screening and due diligence, term sheet negotiation, organizational development, board oversight, aggregation of follow-on investments, University relations, and fund formation.
