As an explanation for my job experiences and involvement:Rite Aid was my gateway into exploring pharmacy in practice, beginning at the community level. I worked as a pharmacy technician for most of my time at Rite Aid, but when transitioning into an intern position, I was able to administer vaccinations, counsel patients seeking self-care guidance, and experience first-hand the standard operating procedures within a community pharmacy. Here I began to unveil the workflow within a pharmacy and could begin implementing innovative changes early in my schooling.As a pharmacy intern in the Pharmacy Department at Independent Health, I communicated via telephone to Medicare patients to assist them with medication-related questions, offer techniques to increase adherence, and restructured my understanding of the players contributing to any individual patient's health outcomes. I was fortunate to practice teamwork and cooperation within a virtual setting while maintaining patient safety, privacy, and care.Most recently, I've accepted a position at Kenmore Mercy Hospital and Primary Care of Western New York to explore an interest in hospital and ambulatory care pharmacy through hands-on experience. I've gained loads of experience in sterile compounding and inventory management behind the scenes at the hospital while simultaneously applying therapeutics coursework into patient counseling via phone and in-person interventions at PCWNY.My mission is to collect the most valuable components of different pharmacy sectors to ensure my career choice fulfills my drive of providing the most valuable, cost effective patient care.
