My research in Dr. Stephen Barr’s laboratory focused on the prevention of viral infection and associated disease. I conducted research projects examining both human antiviral defenses and the preclinical development of antiviral therapeutics. In this role, I worked safely with infectious pathogens in a high-containment CL3 environment. As a senior laboratory member, I also mentored and trained four students in biosafety and molecular biology techniques. For my academic and research accomplishments, I was awarded multiple scholarships from Western University, Mitacs, and governmental agencies. Skills include: mammalian and insect cell culture, virus infection and propagation, plaque reduction assays, nucleic acid extraction, RT-qPCR, Western blotting, transfection, bacterial transformation and plasmid purification, cell viability assays, microscopy, co-immunoprecipitation, gene set enrichment analysis, statistical analysis, manuscript writing, and high-quality figure generation.

I worked as an Intern with Bold Therapeutics through the Mitacs Accelerate program. Collaborating with the Preclinical Research department, I utilized cell culture and animal models of COVID-19 to evaluate the antiviral properties of the anticancer therapeutic BOLD-100. Based on this work, our team filed a patent application, and we are currently preparing a research manuscript for journal submission.

As a Research Assistant in the Mobility Clinic, I supported the delivery of research programs and communicated findings to project stakeholders. In this role, I was responsible for liaising with clinicians and researchers, and developing posters, abstracts, and webinars for presentation at domestic and international spinal cord injury (SCI) conferences. I also employed qualitative and quantitative techniques to organize and analyze survey data from various projects. Additionally, I coordinated a project examining the challenges faced by youth with SCI as they transition from pediatric to adult services in Ontario.
