I work in educational settings to provide mental health support for children and young people, as well as bringing about a whole school approach to tackling mental health at an early intervention level.
I worked with tutors, teachers and parents to help recognise the signs and symptoms of a range of mental health problems, and how to apply Mental Health First Aid techniques in order to prevent them from developing into a more serious issue. A lot of the work I did with tutors and teachers in particular, was training them to incorporate techniques from Mindfulness and Positive Psychology into their lessons, in order for students to perform better academically. I was also an advocate for mental health awareness in the private education sector; regularly giving talks, writing blogs and interviewing people from the industry in an effort to help spread the message. I worked extensively with The Tutor's Association, delivering keynote speeches at The National Tutor's Conference for 4 years in a row, as well as running webinars and workshops for a variety of organisations targeting the wider tutoring/parent community.
Osborne Cawkwell are one of the most prominent tuition agencies in London. I worked as a Consultant and Designated Safeguarding Lead, liaising with clients, teachers, parents and students in order to set up and manage successful placements.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis. I was a qualified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor and ran the 2 day course which qualified people as Mental Health First Aiders. "I attended Dan's 2 day MHFA course in 2019. This is a must for anybody working with young people. Dan is a real expert in the topic. The course is informative, challenging and practical. Highly recommended from both professional and personal point of view." - Mrs L"Thank you Dan, for your amazing 2 day MHFA course. It was professional, informative, and helpful, especially to us working in private tuition. I honestly think more people need to be made aware of the MH issues with young people, and I hope they get up to speed by attending your course. 10/10" - Mr P"Dan is a great instructor because he has excellent insight and a sophisticated and nuanced understanding of Mental Health as it affects young people. Dan applies his knowledge accurately and isn’t afraid to contest, challenge and critique the data and research on the material. This makes attending his sessions all the more interesting." - Ms D
I provided practical and emotional support to adults in the local community, enabling them to work towards recovery and achieving personal goals. This included help with: employment, education, housing, wellbeing and access to local services that can provide additional support where required.
Rethink Mental Illness are one of the largest mental health charities in the UK.As a Mental Health Coach, I worked with individuals on a one to one basis to improve their confidence and help empower them to make their voices heard on issues concerning their overall well-being. This included; drug and alcohol issues, debt management, support with benefits applications, attending doctors appointments, mediation/dispute settlement, as well as support for people who are transitioning from a mental health ward back into the community. As a Group Coordinator, I was involved in setting up and coordinating peer support groups for students at the local university aimed at exploring issues of mental health and crisis management.
