The ecological value of coastal areas varies and so does the sensitivity to pollution. To be able to identify valuable and sensitive coastal areas is an important part of my research.Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can be described as a digital system that integrates hardware, software and data for analyzing and displaying all kinds of data with a known location. A GIS is a very powerful tool used in many different disciplines and it is certainly very useful in environmental analysis. I am specialized in using GIS for environmental analysis and my research primarily focuses on development of GIS-based methods for:-classification of coastal areas-calculating coastal area boundaries-energy filtering in coastal areas-parameterization of key-variables for environmental analysis in coastal areas-identification of coastal areas specially sensitive to environmental pressureI also work with dynamic mass-balance modeling of pollutants, food webs, etc.
