Dan McDougall is a Film Director, Writer and British Foreign Correspondent of the Year - an award he has also been nominated for three times. To date, he has won four Amnesty International Awards for Human Rights Reporting - covering issues as diverse as child rape in South Africa, LGBTQ persecution in Syria, the plight of Europe’s Roma and Zimbabwe’s deadly trade in Blood Diamonds. A former BBC Panorama Presenter, and undercover reporter, Dan was the Sunday Times of London Africa Correspondent, based in South Africa and the South Asia Correspondent for The Observer and Guardian, based in New Delhi, extensively covering Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and India. In his storied career, he has reported, overtly and covertly, from no fewer than 126 nations including some of the most hostile environments in the world. For his work in Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, Libya, Congo. Liberia, Palestine and Sudan, Dan is proud to be a Martha Gellhorn Prize Nominee for outstanding War Reporting. His groundbreaking climate crisis investigation for Guardian documentaries, Open Water, shot in Greenland, has been shortlisted for 30 leading film festivals and was part of The Guardian’s International Webby nomination. His latest short film on the climate crisis in Senegal won best short film at the 2023 Discover Film Festival in London, The Stockholm Film Festival and Toronto Short Docs. Dan is currently developing a feature-length documentary on War Crimes. He is a Media Leader at WEF, the World Economic Forum, and a regular International Speaker on Climate Crisis Storytelling and Human Rights. He was voted one of the world’s most influential people in the field of ethical trading by the US-based Ethisphere Institute. A visiting lecturer at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership he recently spoke at The United Nations on the impact of business on human rights and gave a keynote on Climate Storytelling at Google.
