It was my privilege to lead Abundant Life Church in fulfilling its mission to introduce people to God’s grace and love. Through implementation of a vision strategy, structure, and priorities for reaching people, Abundant Life Church increased its membership 35 times to 3000. While a nonprofit’s goal isn’t to make a profit, there are many business principles I used to grow the church and keep it healthy. FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY: I instituted and managed a budget based upon annual mission goals with a consistent growth by an average of 10% annually. Donations are given when people see value in what the church provides them and the local community.STAFF MANAGEMENT: Staff was hired to manage our business operations and lead various programs. I can tell you that yes, personalities can clash in religious organizations. In addition, I annually recruited and trained 400 plus active volunteers for a free community carnival with 4000 attendees.VISION STRATEGY: To grow, you need to set goals and create work plans to reach those goals. I provided our key leaders with training that brought us together so we could effectively create and implement a vision strategy.People are at the center of a growing business, organization, or community. When business owners or CEOs invest in becoming stronger leaders and help develop others to be leaders, everyone wins.I developed leadership programs and trainings which were provided to church members and the community. One key event was a Global Leadership Summit via satellite for our region. Participants shared that it was the best training they had ever received, even better than through their employer.As a community leader, I worked directly with area educators, business leaders, Rotaries, and area government officials. Together the church created innovative community service to schools improving parent participation and partnered with business and government officials to rehabilitate local, underserved schools.
