I founded an advertising agency driven to shape Africa through people and brands this drives a strong focus on team culture and locally inspired creative campaigns often executed on digital platformsMy role is to ensure business success by overseeing our 4 income generating departments creative, social media, web development & media buying while playing a key role in; sales, client service, human resources, operations and finance.

Together with colleagues from Barclays Bank we recognised the potential for e-commerce in East Africa & started Zeeduka that provided sellers with online shops integrated with payment processing and delivery (similar model to Amazon or Jumia).Zeeduka will always be my first business, though it did not achieve what we dreamt of, it shaped how I look at; partnerships, sacrifice & the opportunities created by new technology or trends.

Inspired by the belief that social & political change can begin at the grassroots, I founded Create Your Leader (CYL) to push against the cycle where politicians appear every election and promise people progress to providing local & involved community leaders with the platform & publicity to win elected positions.I failed to take CYL to where I had envisioned it be due to; a level of naivety, lack of funding & a consistency to seek solutions to the disappointments I faced.

I dreamed of being a full time musician and grew from a bedroom guitar player to a recording & performing artist with my christian rock band Bloodshed.As band leader I led the band; to open for Grammy Award winners Jars of Clay, a Groove Awards nomination and the recording of our first album. The band gave me a lot & I credit it for my ability to speak in public and my understanding of team dynamics.I was emotionally connected to; the music we made, performing, the band members & the belief that this is how I was called to serve. My biggest lesson was learning to move on after our lead singer left in the middle of recording our album.

Working as barista was an extension of what I was already familiar with as I grew up around coffee on our family farm and I’d received training on it's production in secondary school.It is an interesting experience moving from an international bank to a Café, especially in Kenya where wait staff are not always treated respectfully. The spectrum of people reactions to my work as a Barista strengthened my confidence in my decisions.

I was in charge of implementing projects for corporate banking which provided exposure to a lot of industries from manufacturing to agriculture, as we developed commercial banking solutions for them and their staff.At Barclays I grew to appreciate peoples willingness to share their experiences through a networking strategy I developed to connect & gain exposure. This saw me engage several senior executives, the bank CEO and even the British High Commissioner over lunch.I left Barclays which to many was a great place to start your career to travel, people assume that I did not enjoy working at a Bank but I was actually good at my job.
