I am a qualified Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) in the advanced role of Practice Educator in Theatres at East Sussex Healthcare Trust. I have recently achieved First class honours for a bachelors degree in Business with the University of Brighton and a standalone level 7 module 'The Healthcare Professional as an Educator'. As an ODP I provide patient support throughout the anaesthetic, surgical and recovery stages within the operating department. I work with anaesthetists to deliver airway management and analgesia in various areas of the hospital including A&E, ITU and wards for cardiac arrests and trauma calls. My role as Practice Educator allows me to provide educational support for the wide range of learners and students within the theatre department. This includes student midwives, student nurses, students ODPs, junior doctors, medical students and student paramedics. The Business degree has enabled me to develop an appreciation for the financial and functional underpinning of the hospital environment as a business. I have gained leadership and management skills that have proven invaluable in my working environment.
