I’m thrilled to accept a 12 month secondment as Acting Chief Scientist for Queensland Respiratory Services.

As the Senior Respiratory Scientist of Brisbane south and west I am responsible in assisting with the clinical leadership for QRS and its testing sites.

As a Respiratory Scientist I work directly with patients to deliver diagnostic tests of breathing and treatment of patients with lung disorders, such as asthma, COPD, Interstitial lung disease and cystic fibrosis. I am also involved with assessing patient’s fitness for surgery and other treatments. In my role, I see patients from other specialities like cardiology, thoracic surgery and clinical oncology.As a Respiratory Scientist I use different techniques and equipment to investigate respiratory problems and to perform a variety of routine and highly complex diagnostic tests, assessing all aspects of lung functions.Measurements include:- Spirometry- Lung volumes- Respiratory gas exchange- Cardiopulmonary exercise testing- Bronchial provocation (Mannitol challenge)- Allergy testing- Blood gases- Overnight oximetry- Hypoxic altitude simulation testing- Respiratory muscle strength testing- Six minute walk test (with and without oxygen)- Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) testing- Response to treatmentThese test results help with the diagnosis of lung disease to identify treatment regimes, measure the effects of treatment and estimate likely risks during surgery.

This year my role with the Griffith School of Sciencehas evolved and I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to develop and lecture the cardiovascular and respiratory module for Anatomy and Physiology I at the Nathan campus.

I have been invited back to Griffith University as part of the learning and teaching team for their anatomy course 2007NSC. My responsibilities as anatomy lab demonstrator include: - Stepping students through various cadaveric specimens and models. - Covering specific sections of anatomy in detail during fortnightly labs. - Understanding anatomical structures in both models and cadavers, to be able to answer questions from students in relation to anatomy.- Ensuring cadaveric specimens are maintained

As a Senior PASS Leader for Griffith Sciences, I have excelled in my position as PASS leader and have been recognised as a skilled team member capable of taking on a senior position. My roles include: - Monitoring of current PASS leaders - Performing regular sessional observations of current leaders - Act as a mentor and role model for all leaders - Reinforce PASS Principles - Act as an ambassador of the PASS program - Be involved in all leader training, including new leader training and professional development days I still run PASS sessions for 1041SCG - Biological Systems in Trimester 1 + 1014NSC - Fundamentals of Biochemistry in Trimester 2.

My role of Human Biology Workshop Facilitator at Griffith university was my first sessional contract with Griffith University as a postgraduate student. My responsibilities included: - Leading group workshop sessions for 1001NSC Human Biology (Nathan Campus) - Ensuring students were achieving desired learning outcomes - Understanding workshop content and being able to effectively help students understand topics of interest - Engaging with students to make them feel welcome and part of the university - Ensuring group work was promoted, to not only have students reap the benefit of peer assisted learning, but also form friendships with their peers.

As an Air traffic controller, I help manage the safe and orderly flow of aircraft into, out of, and across Australian airspace.We use systems and processes to minimise the risk of collisions, while allowing the maximum number of aircraft to fly safely in our skies.Each year we safely manage 11 per cent of the world’s airspace where there are more than more than four million aircraft movements carrying more than 140 million passengers annually. We deliver our services from 29 air traffic control towers, two major air traffic services centres and four terminal control units.

As Venue/Operations Manager of the Australian Outback Spectacular and Paradise Country, I led a very talented and loyal team to deliver a unique experience for all guests. I held broad responsibilities across operations management, guest services management, people leadership and safety management.Operations management: accountable for the efficient running of the operations department across both venues, including policy and procedural compliancePeople leadership: training and coaching staff and supervisors to drive strong performance, build loyal teams and continually foster group and individual development.
