My profile says I’ve usually been in charge, led and/or managed etc., but really I like to tell stories. It’s why I got started on this path in the first place. I’ve shared organizational and personal stories with the public from some pretty interesting places: Northern and Southern Pacific, the Atlantic, the Arctic and the Indian oceans; both U.S. coasts; and for Astronauts in the ocean of space called Low-Earth orbit (as well as from the Sea bottom). I’ve also shared stories in the deep snow of North Norway, in Silicon Valley, from a warship in the Persian Gulf, in the snowy pines of Wisconsin, the lava dust of Mt. Fuji, a secluded sandy beach near the Great Coral Reef, and the bridge over the river Kwai. We pay attention when we make a connection to something. I believe stories, small and large, help us share, and sharing helps others make a connection that enables understanding.Communication works best when it connects in some way to those we wish to engage. And if we are not trying to engage then we’re just broadcasting, not communicating. I am a skilled communicator who has led seven communications groups: including military and government public affairs and corporate communication offices, ranging in size from small to large (5 to 75). I have developed brand standards, a governance model for corporate philanthropy and corporate social responsibility, media strategies and campaigns, and multiple communications products. I’ve led award-winning PR campaigns, multiple offices during crises large and small, and trained and mentored dozens of former employees and referrals. I am a passionate leader who can plan, implement, manage and generally create opportunities for a team to effectively share its story through media relations, social media, and community outreach. Skill-sets include: Leadership, communications planning, advising executives, crisis planning and response, writing, media operations, internal communication, and mentoring.
