In addition to regular firefighting duties, responsibilities include training all members to safely assist people in their time of need, create and maintain an annual budget, recruit and retain members, motivate members to achieve that which they do not believe possible, maintain a fleet of vehicles and equipment, and interact with elected officials and the public in order to more efficiently protect life and property. Duties here include conducting weekly safety meetings, regular safety training, safety checks for employee, loss of time investigations, equipment, facility, and job site compliance with OSHA, coordinating D.O.T. regulations with employees, overseeing fleet and facility maintenance, logistics, and CDL driver with trailer endorsement.

As Owner/Operator I handled all business aspects of a small part time business. Included in the daily tasks was performing inspections in accordance to the office of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal to keep businesses compliant with statutes set in place by the State of Louisiana.

The primary objective was to safely drive and operate emergency vehicles operated by the fire department. Having been promoted to the rank of driver/operator means that time was spent performing the duties of a firefighter while having to routinely train to maintain firefighting skills and training for a promotion to captain. Personal safety and the safety of others is the foremost priority. This includes inspecting for compliance with fire codes, interaction with the public, training new recruits, and maintaining apparatuses and equipment.
