Performance/Third Engineer (Wsr), Race Engineer (Gp3)Carlin Mar 2011 - Nov 2011Race and performance engineering roles were all part of my work with this extremely successful team. A key part of the 2011 Championship winning F3.5 team as third race engineer (performance and strategy analysis as well as directly working with both drivers). As a race engineer with the GP3 team I drew on my experiences with F2, Prodrive and Motopark to implement improved engineering procedures and reliability and more detailed and robust performance analysis. This was clearly demonstrated by the teams 100% reliability record in the season. I also engineered Tom Dillmann to pole position and the team’s biggest points haul of the season in Istanbul. Expert user in all Marelli software.
-
Freelance Race EngineerMotopark Academy Jan 2010 - Sep 2010Race, performance and design engineering roles were all part of my work with this dynamic, successful and rapidly growing team. I also built on my experiences with F2 and Prodrive to implement improved engineering procedures (car build specifications and Technical Bulletins) and more detailed and robust performance analysis. This clearly accelerated the success of the team in its first full F3 season. Expert user in all Bosch software.

F2 Engineering ManagerPalmersport Jul 2009 - Dec 2009Responsibilities included total engineering responsibility for the fleet of 25 cars, and sole responsibility for the F2 test and development programme, reporting to the Group Operations Manager. Working as Engineering Project Leader (reported to by the Systems and Design Engineering functions) my role was to manage the total engineering function of F2. This included close liaison with WilliamsF1 and other key technology partners (Mountune, Hewland, Shiftec, AP Racing, Cosworth Electronics). At the track, my role alternated between race engineering the Test Car during sessions, and liaising with the team of highly respected race engineers on reliability and performance issues.I used my background in cutting edge Motorsport Engineering to improve engineering management processes and procedures, including implementation of key procedures such as Technical Bulletins, Engineering Change Release procedures, detailed problem investigations and follow up (Product Investigation, Change Request process), detailed Faults Analysis from the Event weekends and the improvement of the efficiency of the data analysis function. As a result, the F2 engineering function was stronger, much more reliable, efficient and more accountable moving forward.

Race Engineer - World SeriesUltimate Motorsport Apr 2008 - Apr 2009Race Engineer with the WSR squad, 2 poles and one feature race win with Esteban Guerrieri. An awesome, awesome year...Responsibilities at the track included running the car for the race weekend (test plan, driver liaison, set up, strategy, data analysis), working with various members of the team to ensure smooth function and best practice. I also had the opportunity to be the development engineer for the new Dallara F308 programme, and ran the first test as team manager.I brought my background in detailed performance analysis and a senior engineering role to improve data analysis, simulation and engineering procedures within this young, ambitious and increasingly successful team. My extensive design experience also helped me to improve design procedures and positively influence the design process. I also developed analysis tools for strategy optimisation and competitor appraisal in Excel/VBA.I used Wintax4 and WinDARAB data analysis software, RaceSim to expert level, BaseX and DynoSoft2000 (Dynamic Suspension Dyno Software) as well as extensive work with Excel, Access and VBA.

Performance Analysis EngineerSubaru World Rally Team Nov 2006 - Apr 2008Covering the test and rally programme of the SWRT, I supported both activities from a performance analysis and systems engineering perspective. Including responsibility for car specification, build, commissioning and set up for rally and test programmes. Required to be fully conversant with the ever evolving vehicle and software specification of the car, and expected to manage disaster situations during events and tests.Developed new methods and techniques for the extended analysis of event/test data to allow more efficient use of this information using deeper performance metrics and simulation techniques, and to enable interface in Excel with the TAG Suite of software.I attained expert user status with MES Atlas, the GEMS suite of crew interface software and MES System Monitor v7, and achieved Expert Excel user status. Also developed Matlab skills.

I was required to be fully conversant with transmission systems, 4WD, vehicle dynamics and engine/transmission control software.I also specified and supervised on-event vehicle set up, and actively utilised transmission/data-logging knowledge. I used a variety of data logging and ECU communication/control software, including Pi Toolbox, ATLAS (TAG), DLog99 (and the GEMS suite of software), DescProW, PIPPA & TAG System Monitor v7. A secondary function was to design and develop customer-specific engineering solutions for the Impreza WRCar.
