Through my education at BCIT for Architectural and Building Engineering Technology I plan to design vertical greenhouse developments which feed communities with local, nutritious and organic foods. Using high efficiency and quality building materials to create a symbiotic relationship between greenhouse and integrated commercial, industrial or residential building, I plan on reducing packaging waste and inefficient transportation needs while providing fresh, year round produce.The business for fresh food and water is very important and sustainable gardening practices are required to keep a healthy approach to consumption and economy. My plan is this:1. Learn the basics of gardening and invest in the production of year round food.2. Research technologies which enhance passive design, such as: - Glazing and material usage for framing members - Thermal exchange and storage - Efficient supplemental heating, ventilation and lighting - Water collection for storage, consumption and thermal mass3. Construct greenhouses and practice gardening techniques while surveying environmental conditions relative to the technologies that are being used.4. Record yields, costs and labour.5. Network with communities gardens, trade schools and local political representation to encourage education on greenhouse agriculture.6. Design compatible greenhouse enclosures for back-yard, low-rise, medium-rise and high-rise buildings incorporating passive design functions.7. Partnering with architectural and engineering firms to provide an all-in-one, ultra-high efficiency development and net-zero/plus living.
