Vertigo recruited me to lead their go-to-market infrastructure design, build-out, and other key DevOps concerns. I was able to participate from early development through product launch and beyond. From my very first day, Vertigo's patents and prototyping had already successfully solved the ongoing licensing and royalty issues that were torpedoing similar apps for sharing music in real-time with friends. The primary technical challenge for Vertigo was to substantially scale their MVP to for a global launch. Refining the tech meant developing a platform that could deliver "lipsync-capable" (i.e. ultra low-latency) video combined with audio streams sourced from an end user's Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, or other major streaming provider account. The combined stream of third-party audio and user's video needed to reliably support 1000s of concurrent broadcasters, along with the large audiences that musicians routinely generate.The technical challenges for scaling such the project were significant: our label and artist partners already provided massive follower counts on other social platforms and required assurance that our scaled MVP had all the backend horsepower to provide a solid experience for their fans. These factors all culminated in a fascinating challenge, and Vertigo pulled a team of great developers from across the country to build and iterate on the undertaking.

mySidewalk moved from Omaha to Kansas City looking for devs to help them continue growing in the civic engagement space. I quickly joined, and helped to bring rigor to the development cycle and a strong operations foundation for our rapidly-evolving geospatial platform offering focused on civic engagement. We successfully launched the new civic engagement product, scaled the development team's feature release throughput, and grew significantly in the following months.

VML is where I first learned the term for what I'd been working toward on previous teams: DevOps. My team at VML had the role of managing hundreds of distinct site deployments for VML client marketing campaigns. These deployments would range from simple CMS stacks running custom sweepstake campaigns (which would surge with traffic for 48 hours, only to be decommissioned after the campaign ended), to long-running custom apps for our major clients (such as NFL's official Fantasy Football platform). This proved to be an excellent way of rapidly understanding the real-world strengths and weaknesses across a broad range of tech stacks. I learned an incredible amount in the process about both DevOps and it's role in the larger organization.

Worked with multiple Department of Defense agencies to ensure networthiness and overall security of the installation and operation of large-scale system deployments. This process (DIACAP) requires extensive planning, documentation, and testing of all systems to meet stringent DoD and NIST guidelines. Additionally sought and achieved ISO 27001 and SOC2 compliance

With the help of funding partners, I had the privilege of bringing the first Bitcoin (BTC) mining venture to investors in the Midwest during late 2009 / early 2010. In 2011, we were able to perform a successful exit via acquisition.
