I am a Biomedical Scientist specialising in blood transfusion and patient blood management. I have successfully led hospital blood transfusion and pathology services, gaining experience in both the NHS and the independent sector.My career in the NHS began in 2008 in primary care administration and clinical governance. In 2012, I pursued a BSc in Adult Nursing but later retrained as a Biomedical Scientist. I hold a first-class BSc (Hons) degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Salford, where I conducted research on erythrocyte storage lesions and red blood cell storage, earning the university’s award for 'Exceptional Performance on a Biomedicine Programme'. I later completed postgraduate studies in Blood Transfusion at the University of Greenwich, achieving a distinction and receiving a commendation for outstanding academic performance. Additionally, I hold a Postgraduate Diploma with distinction in Healthcare Management.I am a Director, Trustee, and Fellow of the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS), where I chair the society’s Communications Committee and act as CPD Editor for its journal, Bloodlines. I am also a member of the International Society of Blood Transfusion's Clinical Transfusion Working Party, the UK and Ireland Blood Transfusion Network, and several other specialist interest and working groups. My work involves close collaboration with the National, Regional, and Hospital Blood Transfusion Committees in England.I enjoy supporting and developing the next generation of biomedical scientists and healthcare professionals aspiring to work in blood transfusion. I am a Guest Lecturer in Biomedical Science at the University of Salford, a Module Lead for the BBTS Specialist Certificate in Clinical Transfusion Practice, and a member of the BBTS Professional Education Committee. I also mentor biomedical scientists and students through mentorship schemes at various UK universities and have experience as a school governor.In 2022, I was honoured with the 'Academy for Healthcare Science Award for Inspiring the Healthcare Science Workforce of the Future'. That same year, I received the 'BBTS Bill Chaffe Unsung Hero Award' at the British Blood Transfusion Society Annual Conference and was shortlisted for the 2022 'NHS England Chief Scientific Officer’s Excellence in Healthcare Science Awards'.
